Who: Joshua Beckman, Lissette Molina-Wood, Martin Price, and Allie Rice
Description: For the past 55 years, the Junior NAD has been an extremely successful program for deaf and hard of hearing students in the 7th through 12th grade. The students who participate in this program develop leadership skills, learn and demonstrate citizenship, and meet and interact with students from other schools and states. Historically, the Junior NAD chapters have been set up within various schools for the deaf or mainstreamed schools with programs serving deaf and hard of hearing students. However, there are many deaf and hard of hearing students enrolled in mainstreamed programs that may not be large enough to support a Jr. NAD chapter. The NAD believes that every deaf and hard of hearing student should have an opportunity to be part of the Jr. NAD experience, and to address this issue, we have been developing the Metro Jr. NAD program which allows students from various schools to form a Jr. NAD chapter instead of one that is school based. Come and learn how this program can be implemented in your state!

What is Metro Jr.NAD?
Metro Jr. NAD is for mainstream programs to establish a Jr. NAD chapter. Two or more mainstream programs can merge and form a chapter together. Mainstream programs can collaborate with deaf schools such as co-hosting an event, coordinating a fundraiser, or participating in community service.
