I. OVERVIEW.
What type do you need?
Velino.
Two models, one distinction: More design for modern buildings.
New lighting feature under the handrail, reinforced profile or plain.
All models combine attractive design with the latest escalator technology
for increased comfort and safety.
Standard model:
VelinoBase
Premium model:
VelinoXtra
Towards the end of our basics of planning, one is confronted with the installation of the escalators and moving walks:
On the following pages we provide you with information
about the most important site precautions which will assist
us in installating your escalator system in an effective
manner.
1. Preparations.
You inform us of your model requirements, travel height
and angle of inclination as well as the location of the
escalators. Our engineers then design your escalator.
2. Confirmation of the main dimensions.
ThyssenKrupp will send you a planning sketch or an installation drawing of your installation. Please check whether
the dimensions of the escalators or moving walks comply
with the dimensions of your building. Please confirm this
on the planning sketch or on the installation drawing.
In addition, our installation team will verify and discuss
the access with you.
3. Final installation.
The escalators and moving walks are unloaded from the
transport vehicle by crane or by forklift truck and placed on
heavy-duty rollers. Then, we transport your escalator or
moving walk through the building. For installation purposes, lifting eyes are attached to the support angles of the
escalator.
Depending on the type of building and the type of escalator
or moving walk there are several possibilities available for
the final installation:
Normally, holes with a 100 mm diameter will have been
made through the ceiling, according to our instructions.
These are used by our installation team for fixing the lifting
gear. This way your escalator or moving walk is simply lifted upwards from floor to floor! The load strain of every
pick-up point during assembly must be at least 25 kN.
Tugela.
Never have traffic escalators looked so good. Whether with glass or metal
balustrade, the Tugela models are made to direct the traffic of tomorrow.
Economical, robust, and with boasting technical features.
Attachment of
the cable winches
to the holes are
prepared at the site
Optional:
Installation with a frame. If no assembly holes can be provided the escalators and moving walks are lifted to their
final location by means of an especially sturdy girder construction. In this case, ceiling load strain must take at least
25 kN.
Optional:
Crane assembly. Where a suitable roof opening is available
or the site is located outdoor we lift your escalator or
moving walk by crane and place it on the supports provided. The customer is responsible for ensuring for all local
authority approvals.

a frame.

ThyssenKrupp Escalators.
1. Which escalator or
moving walk
to use? When?
We distinguish between escalators and moving
walks for commercial centres and traffic installations. Due to the wide range of our models,
we can adapt to most requirements.
We are able to supply five different models.
Discover the one for you!
VI. Installation.

9. Electrical connection.
Our diagram shows where escalators and moving walks
are connected to the power supply. Please note that
electrical cables are inserted at a distance of 450 mm on
the side of the support and that the length of the cable on
the inside of the escalator must be about 1500 mm!
With complex controls, such as those usually required for
escalators and moving walks in traffic installations, the
control equipment should be installed in a separate room.
The supply cable is then installed in this control room.
In case of additional of soffit lightings a separate power
supply must be considered in time. The power connection
must be provided by an authorised electrical-engineer
assigned by you.

Traffic installations:
The most common travel heights of traffic installations are between 4 and

At 27.3, the escalators are normally parallel to the fixed staircases in
public traffic installations.

V. Preparations by others.
18
1. Installation timing.
To prevent damage to the escalator during the construction phase the
timing of installation and assembly should be as close as possible to the
opening date. It should, however, proceed completion of the floor so
as to dispense with the need to take further measures to protect floor
coverings. Please ensure that the provisional floors along the transport
route in the building can comfortably cope with the load weight.
2. Transport to the assembly site.
A suitable unloading area must be available in front of the building.
The access routes to the building must be level and negotiable by
heavy duty rollers. Along the entire transport route to the assembly
site the free height must not be less than the minimum specified in
the disposition plan (also goes for pipes and other attachments fitted
by others to the ceiling structure). In your plan calculations allow for
a 150 mm height of the transport rollers. The entrance width depends
on the width of the conveyor, the length of the delivered units and,
if present, the distance between supporting pillars in the building.
In case of doubt, the entire transport route on location should be
run through on a CAD program or scale paper model.
4. Special delivery.
In order to deliver your system into the building and to assemble it
ready for use in a time saving manner please pay attention to the following during the planning stage:
Moving walk:
Inclined moving walks in shopping centres are
allowed a maximum angle of 12. For extended
travel distance, e.g. trade fairs and airports,
horizontal moving walks with wide pallets are
especially sensible.
Escalator width

The EN115: 2008 revision for moving walks: The pallet width must
be 400 mm wider than the width of shopping trolleys or baggage
carts. The trolleys or carts must fit to the ThyssenKrupp pallet.
Through wider steps or pallets, escalators and
moving walk become noticeably more attractive.
5. Extended newels.

building. In this case we dismantle the balustrades before delivering the
