LESSON PLAN

Unit : SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Cerme

Grade / Term : VIII / 1st Semester
Subject : Physical Science
Chapter : Temperature and its measurement
Time : 3 x 45 minutes

A. Standard of Competence
To understand the scientific procedure for learning the natural objects using
tools
B. Basic Competence
To describe the concept of temperature and its measurement
C. Indicator
1. To explain the reason why sense can’t use a measuring instrument
temperature
2. To define temperature.
3. To mention parts of thermometer
4. To explain the way to use thermometer as a measuring instrument
temperature
D. Model and Learning Methods
1. Model : Direct Instruction
2. Methods : Discussion, inform, observation, and presentation.
E. Learning sources
- Student Book
- Work Sheet
F. Teaching and Learning Activity
• Introduction (10 minutes)
1. Motivation
Teacher ask 1 student to immerse his finger into water in beaker glass
like that figure and tell to his friends what his feel.
Problem :
”How to make the temperature measurement accurately?”
2. Explain learning objectives
• Main Activity (100 minutes)
1. Looking for some information about temperature and
underline an important concept from their student book, and also retell
it.
Definition of temperature
Temperature is something that shows how hot or cold a body is
Parts of thermometer
Capillary pipe

Mercury
Steam point
Vacuum
Bulb
Ice point

2. Teacher demonstrate how to use thermometer to measure

the temperature of an object.
The correct technique for using a thermometer is as follow:
o Hold the thermometer by the glass tube (call it the steam) and don’t
touch the bulb of the thermometer
o Hold the thermometer upright when reading it
o Read the top of meniscus of the mercury in steam
o When taking the temperature of the liquid don’t take the thermometer
out of liquid to read it
o Take the temperature reading when the mercury is not rising or
falling
3. Teacher demonstrate how to read the scale of thermometer
4. Ask some student to do like their teacher’s activity
5. Ask student to do observation on the worksheet grouply
6. Make a presentation based on their activity
• Closure (25 minutes)
1. Guiding student to make a
conclusion based on their activity
Using thermometer as temperature measuring equipment is more
accurate than using sense
2. Answer the problem in early
motivation
To make the temperature measurement accurately we must use
thermometer

• Procedure
1. Fill the beaker glass with water
2. Immerse your finger in glass A, B, and C for several second in each
glass and write what you feel in this table below
3. Measure the water temperature in each glass using thermometer and
write it in the table below
4. Compare your observation’s result and prove your conclusion

• Observation’s Result
No Beaker Measurement
Directly (using finger) Indirectly (using thermometer)
