Gaza Aid Flotilla

Bashar Bakkour
This blessed, humanitarian initiative, coming to Gaza with
vigour and determination, combined with supreme
confidence to achieve its purpose, is well-worth of various
meritorious appellations:
-Freedom flotilla, because it came to announce to the entire
world that the people of Gaza, in spite of Israeli blockade,
suppression, and injustice, are still stubbornly cleaving to
the cause of freedom and liberty.
-Dignity flotilla, for it is accounted a sever blow to human
pride, dignity and honour to watch Gaza under such totally
unwarranted Israeli blockade, while nothing to be done for
the sake of breaking it.
-Love flotilla; all free peoples, represented by this convoy,
are stretching out the hand of love and friendship to every
one, young and aged, in Gaza..
-Victory flotilla; you, people of Gaza, have achieved a
phenomenal victory, by way of displaying determined
resistance to the Israeli occupation, while many have
aligned themselves with Israels strategies and policies.
-Life flotilla, because it came with a view to stating:
Behold, Gaza is alive, and so it will remain.
-Truth flotilla; Gaza, as public opinion shows, is deemed to
be on the way of truth, yet the State of Israel, having
departed from truth, is held to be on the path of a downright
falsehood and perfidy. While truth, by nature, lives longer,
falsehood vanishes soon.

To Israel, this aid flotilla has come with an overtly defiant

message to Israeli threats and orders.
To speak unequivocally, the State of Israel is considered as
an anachronism in the post-colonial world, for it arrogates
to herself a right to which it never belongs. On the top of
that, Israel is the bane of our problems, not only in the Arab
world, but also in Arab-European-American relatively
volatile relations.
In the context, the following supporting statements are
cited: No single cause fuelled Muslim rage as much as the
establishment of Israel. (A.G.Noorani, in Islam and Jihad:
Prejudice versus Reality, Zed, 2002).
I am in a dream. I never believed that one day the US
would come to pay a price for its support to Israel.
(Mustafa, a 24 year old Palestinian in East Jerusalem,
September, 2001).
It is time to accept that the Arab-Israeli conflict is the main
source of tension between the Muslim world and the West
and act to resolve it. (Comment and Analysis, the Guardian
Weekly, October 24 30, 2002).
Journalists and diplomats alike, returning from the Middle
East, attest that our almost blind support of Israel is a major
cause of the anti-Americanism that is sweeping the Islamic
world. Pat Buchanan, American Conservative Magazine,
January 13, 2003).
