Product positioning
Within the McCormick product line-up, the C-Max Series is lower in specification than the CX
range, but offers a higher specification choice and enhanced features over the current C Series.
The result is a range of tractors to compete in the fiercely competitive, price conscious 60 to 100
hp sector.

The gear tooth manufacturing process has been enhanced in which the gear to gear contact is
tighter. This results in less backlash and noise.
The noise in this area is further reduced with the introduction of a new two-piece pressed steel
timing cover plate.
A rotary type injection pump is used on both 3 and
4 cylinder models.
All fuel system components are located on the lefthand side of the engine ensuring a compact fuel
delivery circuit.
The self-venting pumps prevent the need for
the operator to bleed the fuel system.
Fuel tank
A large 102-litre fuel tank, that can be filled from
ground level, sits neatly in front of the operator
platform.
A torque limiting filler cap eliminates potential over
tightening and damage by the operator.
Cooling system
All models are fitted with a water pump that is gear driven from the timing gears and allows the
pump and the fan to work at their optimum speeds.
A higher volume water flow rate and a fast viscous fan provide optimum cooling to
ensure efficient engine performance.
Exhaust system
Two types of exhaust systems are fitted.
A) ROPS. A vertical pipe through the hoodsheet
with the muffler located on top of the engine. The
hood can be lifted without removing the pipe
B) CAB. A post mounted exhaust for improved
visibility and allows full opening front screen.
Transmission options
The following transmission options are available and are subject to local market legislation.
There are 3 transmission options which allow the choice of specifying 40km/h or a creeper
transmission for specialist operations.
The 40km/h transmission includes a mechanical overdrive gear splitter which doubles the
number of gears from 12 to 24.
NOTE:
There is no power shuttle or powershift function available with this range of tractors.
Operating controls
The gear levers are conveniently located to
allow safe and easy access to the operator
platform.
Synchronised Shuttle
All the transmission options have as standard a
synchronised shuttle to ensure easy operation
of directional change. The clutch pedal is
depressed and the lever is simply moved into
the required position.
The shuttle lever incorporates a neutral
position, ideal for operations that require
periodic pauses.
If the tractor is fitted with either an overdrive or
creep transmission, selection is also made
using this lever.
Creeper
Creep speed can be engaged for specialised operations and reduces the standard speeds by
80% allowing travel speeds to go as low as 300 metres per hour at rated engine rpm.
Overdrive
This transmission option provides a mechanical splitter which gives an increase of 20% in
relation to the equivalent standard forward gear. This option allows 40km/h to be achieved.
Range lever
The three-positioned range lever is located to
the side of the speed lever.
This lever is a non-synchronised change and
should be carried out when the tractor is
stationary.
Differential lock
The front and rear differential locks are 100%
locking and are simultaneously engaged by
simply pressing the switch on the steering
column. The easy operation encourages
engagement when field conditions dictate that
extra traction is required.
Disengagement of the diff locks are achieved
by pressing one or both of the brake pedals.

Controls
The PTO system is independently operated using
an engagement lever located on the right-hand
side of the steering column.
NOTE:
It is recommended that when the PTO is not
required, the engagement lever remains in the
engaged position and the drive to the rear shaft is
disconnected using the selection lever.
Selection lever
Ground speed PTO is standard on all models.
The selection of independent or ground speed
PTO is carried out using the lever on the left-hand
side of the seat.
Ground speed PTO is useful with PTO driven
trailers, sprayers and other implements where it is
important to keep a proportional PTO to forward
speed.
Depending on the PTO speed selected, the
ground speed ratio is shown in the chart
below.

Four-Wheel drive
The four-wheel drive is a simple mechanical
engagement to provide the additional traction
requirements.
A 55 steering angle ensures good turning capabilities.
Working in conjunction with the rear brakes, the CMax Series has a front axle IBS system fitted on
all the 4WD models as standard.
The Integral Braking System incorporates 4 wet
discs (2 per side) within the front axle housing.
NOTE: A non-braking front axle will be made
available for markets outside the EU.
The hydrostatic steering is a self-contained system which has its own dedicated pump that
provides 20.5 L/min and oil reservoir.
Effortless steering with no oil starvation of the hydraulic system.
Optional front fenders
Tight-turn swivel front fenders are available as an option on all models. These fenders do not
restrict the turning capability of the tractor, unlike fixed types.
Brakes
The rear brakes are wet oil-cooled multi-disc
and are hydraulically operated.
The brake pedals are pendant type with low
pedal effort and can be locked together for
roadwork or independently for improved field
turning.
The system has its own brake reservoir located
under the hoodsheet. A visual check alerts the
operator of any maintenance requirements. A
mineral oil based fluid (LHM) must be used for
any top-up work.

Hitch sensing
The draft sensing is transmitted through the top
link via the top link bracket and linkage rod to
the hitch control valve.
The draft forces a tractor has to endure can fluctuate greatly by the different type of equipment
that is used. The hitch system can be set to compensate for this allowing the operator to get the
best out of the tractor in terms of performance and economy.
There are two top link mounting holes in the top link bracket. The top hole increases sensitivity
whilst the bottom hole decreases it. It is recommended that with most equipment the top hole is
used.
10
Hitch operation
Operation and setting of the hitch control is
simple with only two main control levers.
Hitch linkage
The linkage can be fitted with the following link ends.
Fixed ball ends
Claw or quick detach ends
The linkage is Category II standard.
The stabilisers are telescopic to not only hold the
lower links in position, but also allow movement
when in work.
11
Trailer Hitches
A variety trailer hitches can be specified to suit the market requirements.
Swinging drawbar Category A (Code YM001)
This is designed to be used with trailers or other
towed equipment. The drawbar height can be
adjusted and the amount of swing regulated by
locating pins.
13
14
Ballast Weights
Front weights (36kg)
A maximum of 7 front weights can be fitted. These provide front end stability and improve
traction on 4WD machines.
A towing pin facility is built into the front weight frame
Rear wheel weights (60kg)
Tyre sizes, soil conditions and the type of operation will determine the amount of additional rear
ballast that is required.
Bolt on rear wheel weights can be fitted to the outer section of the rear wheels. Up to 2 weights
per wheel may be fitted.
