I. Summary
SK Raja Muda (Integrasi), located in Shah Alam, Selangor is one of the
leading schools academically and recently has been recognized as one of the
many cluster schools of excellence in Malaysia. Now, we are working smart
and hard to gain success especially in our pursuit of more success
particularly to produce more English speakers among the pupils. However,
most pupils in SK Raja Muda (Integrasi) are still feeling intimidated when it
comes to using English as medium of communication. Hence, English Fun
Day is hoped to help spark and subsequently develop their interest to learn
and use English widely on daily basis.
Aiming at 150 participants from Year 4 and 5 pupils, English Fun Day 2015 is
organised to encourage pupils interest in using English Language in daily
conversations, enhance pupils interpersonal and communication skills as
well as to promote the spirit of teamwork, unity, co-operation and tolerance
through participation in the proposed activities.
We hope that by the end of the programme, pupils should be able to learn
English Language in enjoyable way through the activities, improve their
vocabulary and simultaneously increase their confidence to communicate
using English effectively.
This programme will be funded by the SKK Phase VI allocation, as it has been
approved earlier this yeas by the Ministry of Education.
Since English Fun Day is going to be held for the first time in SK Raja Muda
(Integrasi), we are reaching out to IPTA & IPTS to give us a helping hand to
make this a reality. We most certainly need extra help in the areas of
manpower, particularly to help facilitate and conduct of the whole event.
Facilitators will receive a certificate of appreciation for helping out in school.
Aligned with the goals of Malaysian Education Philosophy we hope to
produce more motivated and inspired language learners who would go the
length to improve their English Language proficiency through activities
suchlike English Fun Day.

II. Introduction
SK Raja Muda (Integrasi), located in Shah Alam, Selangor is one of the
leading schools academically and recently has been recognized as one of the
many cluster schools of excellence in Malaysia.
Cluster school is a brand given to schools identified as being excellent in its
cluster from the aspects of school administration and student achievement.
One of the 6 core strategies in the National Education Blueprint is to foster a
culture of excellence in educational institutions within the Malaysian
education system by forming "Cluster schools of excellence" which selection
criteria is based on specific fields like academic, co-curricular and sports
achievements. These schools can be emulated by other schools in the same
cluster and outside the cluster.
One of the niche areas of excellence at SK Raja Muda is English. The English
Panel at SK Raja Muda (Integrasi) has outlined several projects to be carried
out throughout the year in order to fully utilize the privilege granted to
cluster schools. The projects are mostly aimed at Year 4 and 5 pupils in hope
to gain progress in the areas of functional English both inside and outside of
classrooms.
SK Raja Muda (Integrasi) is working exceptionally smart and hard to gain
success especially in our pursuit of more success particularly to produce
more English speakers among the pupils. Hence, we are proud to organise an
interactive whole-day English workshop, also referred as English Fun Day
to spark passion towards English learning among learners.

III.

Needs/Problems

SK Raja Muda (Integrasi) has been granted Cluster School due to its high
performance in these two areas of excellence : English and Entrepreneurship.
All teachers, staff and pupils are working towards making English as our
ethos and in order for that to happen, English activities such as English Fun
Day is deemed important to make it a reality.
However, most pupils in SK Raja Muda (Integrasi) are still feeling intimidated
when it comes to using English as medium of communication. Hence,
English Fun Day is hoped to help spark and subsequently develop their
interest to learn and use English widely on daily basis.

ACTIVITIES
Description of Work
Ice Breaking
[15-20 minutes]
Participants will be
divided into groups of 810 using picture cards

Station 1:
Animal Alphabet
Relay
Test participants on how
well they know the
English names of
different animals

[15 minutes]

Remark

Hand out cards with images on such

as strawberries, blueberries,
blackberries and other such groups of
things.
Then get them to find someone with
the card that goes with their card.
Participants find the person(s) with
the item that matches theirs.
Once they are in their groups, get
them to get to know each other
(names, classes, age, etc.)
Begin by writing each letter of the
alphabet a board / piece of paper and
splitting group into 2 teams.
One member of each team will come
to the front and say the name of an
animal while erasing the letter it
begins with.
Example: If the first team says "tiger"
then they erase the letter 't' and other
animals beginning with 't' such as
turtle can't be chosen. A member of

Station 2:
How Many Words
Can You Make?
Participants try to make
as many English words
as they can from the
letters that make up a
word provided

[15 minutes]

Station 3:
One Part Drawing

Reinforcing keywords
related to parts of the
body as well as clothes
and accessories such as
glasses and hats

[15 minutes]

the next team will then do the same,

and so on until a team can't think of
the name of an animal that begins
with one of the remaining letters.
The last team remaining wins
Facilitator keeps scores of both teams
answers to be accumulated as the
groups achievement
Split group into 2 teams
Write the word on a board / piece of
paper and give participants 5 to 7
minutes to finish before checking that
their words are valid and spelt
correctly
Whichever team makes the most
words wins
Facilitator keeps scores of both teams
answers to be accumulated as the
groups achievement

Split group into 2 teams

The aim of the game is for each
participant in the team to draw one
part of an animal, person or
character, combining their efforts to
produce something resembling the
real thing
They must listen carefully to the part
the facilitator says at each point,
quickly drawing it and passing the
drawing on to the next student so
they can do the same
Facilitators then judge the completed
drawings at the end of each round
and award points to the teams who
did best
Example: Tell participants to draw a
monkey with each team ready to go,
say the first body part, which might
be "tail!" the first participant then has
around 10 seconds to draw a monkey
tail somewhere on the paper before
passing it on to the next student in
the team. "Ears!" might be the next
part, the mouth, arms and so on.
Mixing up the body parts adds to the
fun so feel free to announce them in
any order as pleased.
Change the order after each round so
whoever started the first drawing
finishes the next or allow them to
move around as they please between
rounds. A good idea: allow the last
person to draw "anything!" to give
them a chance to complete a possibly
disjointed picture.
Whichever team makes the best
picture wins

Station 4:
Funny Sentences

Facilitator keeps scores of both teams

answers to be accumulated as the
groups achievement

Split group into 2-4 teams

Randomly hand out the pieces of
paper to the students so they each
have one word. Tell them they have to
form as many sentences with other
students (they don't need to worry
about punctuation).
Once they think they have formed a
correct sentence they should let the
facilitator know so he/she can check
it, if it makes sense to earn a point for
the team
Facilitator keeps scores of both teams
answers to be accumulated as the
groups achievement

Use a range of English

words to form sentences
that make sense

[15 minutes]

Station 5:
Linking Letters
and Words
Challenge participants to
think of a range of
English words as fast as
possible

[15 minutes]

Station 6:
Rebus Puzzles
Challenge participants
creative and critical
thinking skills over
questions in rebus
puzzles

[15 minutes]

Station 7:
Relay Twister

Participants construct

Begin by saying a word, the first

participant will then think of a new
word that begins with the last letter of
the first word, the following student
will do the same, taking the final
letter of the previous word and using
it as the first letter of a new word
Example: The first word is car then
the next word could be red, followed
by, dog, golf, food and so on.
The catch is that participants have to
think quickly and not repeat any word
that has already been used, if they
repeat a word or are too slow then
they are out of the game
Introduce further rules such as
making the words all part of one topic.
For example, the words might have to
be related to sport, starting with bat,
tennis, soccer etc
Facilitator keeps scores of both teams
answers to be accumulated as the
groups achievement
Split group into 2 teams
Facilitator will demo how rebus
puzzles are played
Participants from each team will take
turn to answer the puzzles with the
team with the most correct answers
win
Facilitator keeps scores of both teams
answers to be accumulated as the
groups achievement
Split group into 2 teams
Facilitator act as the game's referee
The referee will spin the spinner, call

words from open and

close syllables by playing

Twister!

[15 minutes]

Station 8:
My Amazing Body!
Name parts of the body
in this exciting hands-on
real size silhouette of the
body

[15 minutes]

Closure Activities

out the moves, and supervise the

game
Position two participants on opposite
ends of the mat
Participants put one foot on the an
empty circle and the other foot on the
other empty circle closest to their end
of the mat
The referee will spin the spinner which
contains pictures of objects and
participants must place their palms on
the syllables to spell the word at
which object the spinner stops at
Facilitator keeps scores of both teams
answers to be accumulated as the
groups achievement
Facilitator picks a participant to be the
model and a few other participants as
the draft persons/illustrators
The draft persons/illustrators will
outline the shape of the models body
on a piece of mahjong paper
The rest of the group members will
label the parts of the body once the
body silhouette is ready
Facilitator keeps scores of the groups
answers based on the number of

use to label the correct part of the
body
