Introduction of Debate

1. N: If gay pride means anything it means not wanting, needing, or seeking any sort of
acceptance but self-acceptance A: It is not our place to sort out who should be denied a bond
with God and the Holy Spirit of the kind that we find trhough baptism, communion and marriage.
2. N: Marriage is for procreation and should not be extended to same sex couples because they
cannot produce children together A: Marriage is not only for procreation, otherwise infertile
couples or couples not wishing to have children would be prevented from marrying.
3. N: since we legalize same sex marriage, are we also supposed to legalize incest? A: Okay
first of all, incest has nothing to do with same sex marriage and secondly *sassy smile* stop
changing the subject (just because you have nothing to say against us anymore)
4. N: gay marriage HIV A: even if gay marriage isnt legalized, it wont stop them from doing the
dirty
5. N: yes but if causes gay marriage is legalized, it would give them a right and reason to do the
dirty A: STRAIGHT PEOPLE ARE DIRTY TOO, its about hygiene, not sexual preference.

thus not spreading it to other people.
7. No union is more profound than marriage for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity,
devotion, sacrifice and family.
8. Gay couples need access to marriage for the same reason heterosexual couples need it
9. Benefits of being recognized a family/ couple by the government: a) Tax Benefits b) Estate

12. N: when a homosexual couple decides to separate because the one had changed their
sexual preference, it may greatly affect the childs wellbeing A: The purpose of marriage is to
unite 2 beings who love each other, not because you are a boy or a girl, so being gay or going
back to being straight is not the reason why they separate.

13. Being true to your sexuality does not give you an excuse to be more special/ doesnt exclude
you of the rules that you must abide.
14. N: What about the people who will downgrade homosexuals? Dont you think that it affect
their emotional being? A: The purpose of legalizing same sex marriage is to reduce the
discrimination against homosexuals. Being true to your sexuality makes you stronger as a
person. Even straight people can experience criticism, what makes homosexuals any different?
*insert Caitlins cake metaphor*. Be the change you want to see in the world.
15. 1 Corinthians 13:4- 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not
proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no
record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects,
always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
16. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues,
they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.9 For we know in part and we
prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
17. A couple lying about their sexuality will not make a good family
18. It is not what happens to us that determines out happiness, so much as the way we react to
what
19. Being happy requires looking for good things.
20. There are bigger sins that you can commit other than being gay.
21. Happiness is a decision
THE INTRODUCTION
(The strongest Ive ever built)

In todays world we find people of different genders. Now these genders includes
men, women, gays and lesbians. It is not very unusual in todays era that these genders
undergo same-sex marriage. Now same-sex marriage may look inappropriate for some
people. Some reasons may be: they were not raised to be one of those people, samesex marriage only became popular these days, they find their relationship gross, and
they think of them as weaker individuals. But if we look closer, we will see that same-sex
marriage promotes equality, lessens discrimination, and broadens acceptance which we
think that every religion in this world teaches. If we will base our perspective in statistics

we will see that Almost 72% is the Percentage of people in the United States that live in
a state where same-sex marriage is legal, 9 million adults are LGBT in the US, 251,695
-- Same-sex married couples in the United States in 2013, according to the Census
Bureau's American Community Survey. 60% - is the Percentage of Americans who support
same-sex marriage, according to a May 2015 Gallup Poll. Not only the US approved
same-sex marriage but also in:
2000 The Netherlands
2003 Belgium
2005 Canada
2005 Spain
2006 South Africa
2009 Sweden
2009 Norway
2010 Portugal
2010 Iceland
2010 Argentina
2012 Denmark
2013 Uruguay
2013 New Zealand
2013 France
2013 England / Wales
2013 Brazil

2014 Luxembourg
2014 Scotland

Now we can clearly see that some countries have already broaden their minds. And we
are hoping to see that the numbers will increase starting from within us. Now, others
may say what about the Philippines? We have the answers to your questions. In the
Philippines, same-sex marriage is not yet legalized but nevertheless it didnt stopped the
government to fulfill the true essence of acceptance of LGBTs. That is because they did
the following:
1. They legalized anti-discrimination laws in the Philippines but it is not nationwide
2. They legalized anti-discrimination laws in the provision of goods and services
3. They allowed gays in the military since 2009
These are only some of what they did to show equality in their country. But we think that
in the upcoming years same-sex marriage will be legalized and the full acceptance to
LGBTs will be fulfilled. So, why did we think that these will be approved? Well,
according to the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines it is written in Article 2, sections
10 and 11; Article 13, sections 15 and 16; Article 15 sections 1 and 2 that
Article 2:
Section 10: The State shall promote social justice in all phases of national
development.

Section 11: The State values the dignity of every human person and guarantees
full respect for human rights.
Article 13:
Section 15: The State shall respect the role of independent people's organizations to
enable the people to pursue and protect, within the democratic framework, their
legitimate and collective interests and aspirations through peaceful and lawful means.
Section 16: The right of the people and their organizations to effective and reasonable
participation at all levels of social, political, and economic decision-making shall not be
abridged.
Article 15:
Section 1: The State recognizes the Filipino family as the foundation of the nation.
Accordingly, it shall strengthen its solidarity and actively promote its total development.
Section 2: Marriage, as an inviolable social institution, is the foundation of the family
and shall be protected by the State.
