I recently participated in a forum run by the Sisters of St Joseph on the most

recent encyclical of Pope France, Laudato Si. At some point during the morning I
was struck by how many things there are for us to be actively engaged in that
are world changing items on the global agenda: refugees, peace, poverty,
education. The list goes on. It struck me however that no matter what the issue
is, it is somehow fundamentally linked with our care of the earth and our
environment. It truly is the heart of this encyclical.
I remember thinking too that one doesnt have to go far really to see the truth in
the papal challenge in this document. How often do we hear hottest day on
record, coldest day on record, wettest September ever. Only really the
blindest of us would deny regardless of the opinion on global warming or
climate, that there is something happening and we cant go on the way we have
been. No longer, it would seem, can we be fence sitters. Last Sundays gospel is
testament to that. James and John are challenged to make a call on whether
they are able to drink the cup or to be baptised with the baptism of Christ no
getting splinters for the active Christian Catholic person.
At the forum there was a lovely young couple and their four young children who
spoke on what Laudato Si meant for them and to them. What I liked was the
practical way that they instil in their children care of the land and care of each
other. Putting boxes in the recycling, taking a turn from the smallest to the
largest, sometimes going without, going to Mass and praying together. All in
keeping with the encyclical.

What is of note is that the Encyclical includes all of our Catholic Christian values,
from Genesis to Revelation. And like the young family at the forum it is most
often lived in the simple things of prayer, recycling and taking a turn without
envy or jealousy.
As Pope Francis writes: The universe unfolds in God, who fills it completely.
Hence, there is a mystical meaning to be found in a leaf, in a mountain trail, in a
dewdrop, in a poor persons face. The ideal is not only to pass from the exterior
to the interior to discover the action of God in the soul, but also to discover God
in all things. (Pope Francis, Laudato si, no. 233).
Best wishes,

Greg

Parish Social Justice Group
Laudato Si On Care of Our Common
Home. The theme of Pope Franciss new
encyclical, Laudato Si, is that we share a
small interconnected planet which can
only become a reality in relationship with
all creation, people and the Creator. This
relationship calls us all to a change or
conversion of heart both individual and
communal. The Pope is making a
challenging call to all people who seek
justice and integrity of creation not just
people of faith.
Please join us for a presentation On Care
of Our Common Home by Tim Prescott on
Wednesday 28th October at 5:30pm to
6:45pm in the Parish Hall Meeting Room,
Forster. The Parish Social Justice Group is
open to the community and all are invited
to attend.

One of our parishioners has an organ

available if anyone would like it. Please
contact the Parish office.

Master grant that I may see. The values

we were blind to in our youth, now
become clear. Blindness gives way to
vision through faith in Jesus. As children of
God, we are called to do good things, and
to witness Gods love.

High Tea Fundraiser Update

The Forster Tuncurry Parish's High Tea
fundraiser in March of this year, raised
$5,334 in support of housing projects in
Tzaneen.
Our friends there, will also be working in
an orphanage and school in Bakhita west
of Tzaneen, where the Sisters of our Lady
of the Sacred Heart care for 25 vulnerable
girls.
Building of houses has begun and various
essential supplies have been provided to
include clothing and stationery for school.
The "bricks" we sold at the fundraiser have
now been taken to the building site at
Rapitsi so that your names will be
embedded in those 4 little houses that you
helped to pay for. Well done! See our
website (under news and events tab) or
Facebook page to view photos.

Soup Kitchen Morning Tea

Those who helped with the Forster
Neighbourhood Centres Soup Kitchen
during the winter months are invited to a
thank you morning tea on Tuesday 27th
October from 10.30am in the parish hall.
We hope to see you there.
