Self-Evaluation

The ability to accurately judge your own contributions and efforts is an

important skill to have, both in the classroom and in the real world. I want
you to have the chance to do so for your accomplishments in English 1020.
For the self-evaluation, I would like for you to reflect on your semester and
your work in this class. There are three main areas that I would like for you
to reflect upon: unit preparation, contributions to the class community, and
improvement. Ive put some questions under each area for you to think
aboutquestions to help you judge what youve accomplished. Not all
questions need to be answered for each onethese are just a guide to help
you self-assess. For each area, take the time to think about your work
throughout the course and rate yourself honestly. Look at the big pictureif
you had one bad week over the course of the semester, dont be too hard on
yourself. On the other hand, if you had only one good week, dont be too
generous. Think about the point scale as the same type of A-F scale weve
used for quizzes (and refer to the grading rubric there if you need to). If you
felt like you were an A student in Class Contributions, give yourself
between an 18 and 20 out of 20. If you felt you were a C student there,
put in between a 14 and 16. Add all the points up for a score out of 50,
which will be included as part of your final grade. This is your chance to
have input into your own performance. Though it will be included as a grade,
Id much rather you view this as something you do for yourselfa chance to
review and reflect and prepare for your next course, your next job, or your
next big jump in life. Again, that ability to be honest with yourself about your
efforts, your talents, and your contributions to the world at large will be a
rewarding and satisfying skill to develop and improve throughout your life.
Unit Preparation:

18/20

Things to think about: Did I read all of the assigned materials? Did I read
them more than once, until I really understood them? Did I review the quiz
questions, and take time to think about them in depth, before I took the unit
quiz? Did I review and/or revise my quiz answers to make them better? Did
I proofread my quiz answers for errors? Did I use the Wikipedia links to find
more information about the authors and works? Did I put forth my best
effort in my weekly quizzes?
Class Contributions:

15/20

Things to think about: Did I read the discussion board posts for each unit?

Did I post? Did I reply to my classmates questions and comments? Was I

respectful of others views? Did I help create a feeling of community? Did I
contribute to the learning environment?
Improvement:

10/10

Things to think about: Did I push myself to be a better student this

semester? Did I improve as a writer? Did I improve my literary analysis
skills? Did I take advantage of the How to Read Like a Professor to
understand the ideas behind literary analysis? Did I email for help when I
needed it?
Total:

43/50

Final Thoughts: Use this area to write any comments or explanations about
your work this semester.
