Graphical User Interface

The SITE Graphical User Interface enables easy
system operation and administration. Via IP connection, the system can be accessed simultaneously
by various parties.
The SITE GUI provides a user friendly, easy to use
drag-and-drop environment, to arrange, copy and
edit test and report elements, based on each
user's access permission.
Further, the integrated web user interface widens
the flexibility to set up tests and access reports
via the Internet at remote locations. The available
XML interface is used as integration interface to
exchange data with other infrastructure.

Dynamic Resource Management

SITE can execute tests at any time desired. Via the scheduler
window, a single test or a set of tests can be scheduled once
or periodically, based on a precise and convenient definition
of interval, day, time and frequency. To avoid any resource
conflict, an intelligent resource management system controls
access to interfaces and SIM cards, assuring a smooth
operation and maximum test parallelism.
The O&M Manager checks system components regularly and
generates an alarm (SNMP-Trap) in the event of failure. Service
alarms are also triggered based on user-specified alarm
definitions for test cases and components.

Keynote SIGOS SITE Test System

Central Open Data Bases

Test Case Editor

Reaching a maximum of performance, the SITE

System is operated on an open SQL-based database.
All configuration information, test results, measurements and KPIs are stored logically to guarantee
a flexible data import and export at any time.
Combined with filter functionality, each listing can
be easily screened based on different criterias.
Furthermore, the entire SITE hardware is monitored
by the database, from the individual test run to
each SIM card and hardware component connected.

SITE provides large libraries of test cases for main

network services in various settings. To offer users
an additional wide selection of options SITE
provides with its Test Case Editor Environment the
possibility to create own test cases with the
assembly of various test steps via an user-friendly
drag-and-drop mechanism.

Test Sequences
& Control Structures
To precisely mimic the consecutive usage of various
network services, tests can be combined and programmed in a sequence. In addition, the sequence
can be used to access complex network service
interaction whilst saving testing-time. Control
Structures provide logical operators like: List based
FOR EACH, condition based WHILE and REPEAT,
and time based WAIT. Dependent on the arrange
tests, more then twice as much tests can be performed with the same number of test interfaces.

SITE Drive Test

Monitoring the network's receive level is an easy
task whereas testing and documenting valuable
and precise results of a 2G and 3G technology
collaboration, whilst accessing services and moving
from A to B, is somewhat tough. SITEs Drive Test
Unit is designed to access services while being
moved freely. Tests, combined with GPS path
information and GSM - UMTS/HSDPA - GSM
technology interchange, provide full handover,
service quality and performance results, displayed
on a geographical map (GIS). The Drive Test Unit
can be combined with SITE System infrastructure
or used independently, offering local SIM
Multiplexing and reports.

Test Interfaces
SITE supports GSM/GPRS Um , UMTS Uu , EDGE, CDMA2000, HSDPA, PSTN a/b, ISDN So, GSM A, Gb, ISUP,

Modularity & Scalability

The modularity and scalability of SITE permits
optimum system adaptation to customer
requirements. Portable and Stand-Alone Systems
for implementation in test laboratories are just
as possible as the extension of a distributed
system to cover the entire live network. The
test system may be upgraded as required by
new applications, functions and test interfaces.
4

Open System
SITE is an open system and can be easily
integrated into existing test environments.
Existing equipment may be directly linked to
SITE and controlled and monitored via the
system interface.
Moreover, current software updates, configuration
modifications or problem clearance are quickly
and reliably performed by the Keynote SIGOS
support team via remote access.

SIM Multiplexing
SITE can handle thousands of SIM and USIM
cards in cascade-style SIM card boards. The
subscriber information of a SIM card is read
out by the system and transmitted via a LAN/
WAN network to any test location required. Each
card may be virtually transmitted to any location
without even a single card having to be moved
physically.

Reporting / Alarming
Reporting is a fully integrated feature in SITE;
SITE Reporting enables user to create, view and
forward reports which have been generated of
the report data base measurements flexible
created KPIs according to ETSI standards or easy
integrated customised KPIs. These reports can
be defined by the SITE user by means of an easy
drag-and-drop functionality. Different alarm levels
can be specified in these reports and the alarms
can be defined and released by different service
alarm features e.g. aggregation and threshold.
Alarms can be forwarded to the desired destination via SNMP, SMS and e-mail. Reports can
be illustrated in different ways e.g. Charts,
Histograms, Pie Charts as well as by Geographical
Information System (GIS) and to be viewed over
the SITE user interface or with an HTML browser.

Keynote SIGOS SITE Applications

Keynote SIGOS SITE provides applications for testing all the important service functions
used by mobile network customers. A continuous standards and market evaluation process,
ensures that Keynote SIGOS is ready to support the need for End-to-End tests of any new
service that a mobile operator wishes to launch and maintain.

End-to-End / Service Testing

To check that services are available to customers
in a mobile network, the only real test is accessing
the service via the air interface, using mobile stations
and real SIMs. This is the same connection scenario
as experienced by the mobile customer. SITE
supports test interfaces for both moblie and fixed
subscribers. This testing environment permits the
check of basic network connectivity and configuration
i.e. BTS BSC MSC VLR HLR PSTN.

ROAMING

Inbound / Outbound Tests,

IREG 24, 26, 27, 29, IR 32, IR 35, IR 50, IR 60
Todays mobile subscribers expect roaming service
availability worldwide. The high revenue inbound roaming
traffic and the customer satisfaction factor for outbound
roaming, require careful maintenance via an automated
testing program. The SIM multiplexing technology allows
for both testing of multiple partner's SIM cards in the
home network, and the possibility to test for outbound
functionality in distant countries.

SITE HANDOVER SIMULATION

BASIC CALLS

Basic Calls, B-Channel Check,

Location Update
The high revenue circuit switched functions are a
vital service to be maintained. Mobile to mobile, or
mobile to PSTN in both MO and MT formats require that
core network configuration data is correctly maintained
during infrastructure growth or changes. Basic calls for
prepaid subscribers, which make up the majority of most
mobile network's customer base, typically involve complex
intelligent network support and interaction with a hot
billing credit database.

SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES

Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, Call Barring,

Call Hold, CLIP/CLIR
All multi-switched calls and any interaction with the
subscriber profile stored in the HLR can be automatically
tested with our Test System, so that subscribers can use
these services trouble-free.

The freedom of moving around is the whole idea of

Mobile Phones. While moving, the Mobile Network needs
to monitor and handover existing communication from
one cell to others. Keynote SIGOS has created a highly
precise coupling field controlled handover Simulator to
force handovers within a field or laboratory coupling
matrix. During tests, SITE accurately documents all
network information e.g. LAC, Cell ID or Rx combine with
a 100ms time stamp. These stationary, simulated handovers
provide vital, reproducible and standardized service
quality information to reveal component interchange
flaccidities. In combination with the SITE Drive Test, the
full range of tests can be covered.

SMS

MO, MT, TAP, SMPP, UCP

SMS is vital to the revenue stream of mobile operators.
The basic functionality for MO and MT, as well as extensive
services supported by SMS, need to be carefully
maintained.

INTERACTIVE VOICE

Prompt recognition and comparison, IVR free testing

GPRS

Data Rates, Internet Protocols, HTTP, FTP, IMODE

The high ARPU business customers and multi-media
users depend on GPRS fast connectivity and high speed
services. The complexity of GPRS attach, context activation
and test of End-to-End connectivity is fully tested by
this SITE application.

GLOBALROAMER
For outbound roaming testing Keynote SIGOS offers the
GlobalRoamer. GlobalRoamer allows mobile network
operators to activate their own SIM cards via the internet
in mobile test stations in remote countries, and verify
that all services are available for their roaming customers.
For more details and if interested, please contact us at
globalroamer@keynote-sigos.com.

IVR services belong to our daily and future life; this is

why Keynote SIGOS has designed an easy to use IVR
tester able to cope even with the most sophisticated
speech menus.

REVENUE ASSURANCE
CDR Comparison

SITE provides with the generation of detailed CDRs for

all the test scenarios of different services the bases for
succeeding Revenue Assurance processes like CDR
comparison, metering verifications and billing verifications.
Those processes like CDR comparison play an important
role for network operators, on one hand to avoid
discontent customers and on the other hand to avoid
significant losses and to comply with legal regulations.
Keynote SIGOS offers with SITE powerful tools for
automated CDR generation and CDR comparison.

MMS

MO, MT, Legacy SMS, E-mail

MMS is a promising technology, but to ensure its success
it is vital to offer as quickly as possible a high quality
of services. In addition to the required GPRS connectivity,
the additional network elements which support MMS are
checked by an End-to-End test process.

PREPAID SIM CARD RECHARGING

Voucher Management, Voucher Recharging

Subscribers expect correctness of voucher recharging.
SITE offers this application to provide operators with a
tool to verify this service. This application consists of
the voucher management and the recharging mechanism
which can be used as a standard test case as well as
a SITE O&M job in order to ensure the operational
availability of prepaid SIM cards in the SITE SIM Mulitplexer.

VIDEO TELEPHONY
Video Telephony is a key service of 3G. This promising
wireless service can cause new problems across multitechnology networks. Today where legacy services coexist with 3G offerings, End-to-End testing and roaming
automation are critical requirements for service deployment
and profitability. SITE Video Telephony offers a regular
testing of this service.

VOICE QUALITY
Voice service is and will remain the key quality indicator
in a mobile network. This is recognised by subscribers
and operators alike. Not only the availability of the
service such as answer ratios and dropped calls are of
interest but also specifically the quality of the voice
connections. This is why SITE supports voice quality
testing according to the PESQ algorithm recommended
in the ITU-T P.862 standard.

WAP (1.0, 2.0)

WML Decoding, Follow Links, E-mail,

check of content and performance
Although the WAP technology has overcome its initial
difficulties, the introduction of new WAP portals can
endanger the reliability.
SITE WAP Applications will prevent breakdowns in
operation and help to reinforce the customer's trust in
WAP services. As WAP applications are in general frequently
updated, an automated regression test provides confidence
of service availability and correct functionality.

HANDSET SIMULATION
The opportunity for mobile operators to sell exciting
new mobile content and handsets is enormous.
We can help with our most powerful tool to test all your
services simulating the large variety of available handsets.

STREAMING
Due to higher bandwidths the use of real-time multimedia
applications in the wireless / mobile community will
dramatically increase. To ensure the mobile customer
enjoys a positive experience, the streaming data transfer
has to be tested with SITE Streaming, which uses the
industry standard RTP and RTSP protocols.

VIDEO QUALITY
SITE delivers perceptual quality measurements to reproduce the subscribers quality impression mapped to the
mean opinion score, similar to other quality tests. SITE
supports VIDEO quality testing according to the PEVQ
algorithm.

WLAN
The number of worldwide Wireless LAN (WLAN) hot spots
supported by the mobile network operators will grow
enormously in the next few years. The existing customer
SIM card will be the preferred (and secure) identification
and authentication module. SITE WLAN tests the availability
of Wireless LAN hot spots, and the access.

PUSH-to-TALK
The new push-to-talk services turn mobile phones into
walkie-talkies with unlimited range. The benefit of radio
style communication especially broadcasting to many
users makes it much more convenient than many phone
calls or even call conferencing. SITE tests the 1-to-1 or
1-to many voices communication

BLACKBERRY
It allows users to stay connected with secure and wireless access to E-mail, corporate data, calendar and web,
to easily manage all their communication and information
from a single BlackBerry device whenever and wherever
required. With SITE BlackBerry e.g. the e-mail push from
a RIM server is tested on commercial BlackBerry devices.

RING BACK TONE (RBT)

RBT is a nice telco feature for customers. Instead of
listening to standard ring tone subscribers can choose
individual melodies. SITE tests this RBT melody activation.

WEB BROWSING, IP TESTS

A very powerful extension for network test systems is
the availability of a web browsing function.
The SITE Test System is able to simulate the behaviour
of a real web user in front of an internet browser in
combination with mobile subscribers.
This application can be used with either GSM
or WLAN connectivity.

FUTURE APPLICATIONS
Keynote SIGOS always keeps pace with the latest
telecommunication developments, e.g. 3G services, 3G
location based services, Drive Test with Wireless LU and
GPS, Traffic Telematic, Tests with DSL interface etc...

Outbound Roaming

GlobalRoamer the easiest way to solve

your Roaming Test needs
The Challenge
The Roaming traffic increased significantly
over the last decade and is representing
today an important part of the mobile
operators revenue.
By introducing new technologies and
services like BlackBerry, Video Telephony,
HSDPA and UMTS networks become more
and more complex, interference-prone and
increasingly complicating to administer.
Today customers are used to a high quality
and reliable service, expecting just the same
all over the world.
Therefore a permanent surveillance of the
roaming networks is indispensable but
extremely complicated due to a lack of
control.

Test the service availability and performance for

your customers when they roam to other networks
The Solution
The GlobalRoamer allows you to verify that all
services are available to your roaming customers
worldwide. By means of the Keynote SIGOS SIM
Multiplexing technology your SIMs are virtually
transmitted to remote test stations in many
countries where real voice, SMS and data calls
are performed. In this way, many user profiles
can be rapidly tested all over the world without
a single SIM card ever having to be physically
shipped to the remote test locations. Of course
reporting facilities enable the visualization of

the results. In case of critical quality degradation

automated E-mail alarms are sent to your
technical staff.

All you have to do is:

Send your test SIM cards to Keynote SIGOS!
Access the worldwide test network via
the internet!
Define and start the tests and collect
the results!

What our customers say

Ilse De Kee (Base Belgium)
"Using GlobalRoamer, we realized that the
success rate of our CAMEL calls was only
around 50%! Additional to that, we then
realized that another 50% of the successful
tests werent billed! Thanks to GlobalRoamer,
we could detect this and immediately take the
respective actions."

Kjartan Briem
(OG Vodafone Iceland)
"The chart demonstrates how we could
decrease the amount of Roaming errors.
This improvement was a combination of three
actions: the automatic roaming testing with
the GlobalRoamer service, a new international
carrier connection and the ASR measurements
on international links."

Oct-04

"The biggest profit we yield by using

GlobalRoamer is the improvement of our GPRS
roaming service. By testing this service on a
daily basis we were able to notice disturbances
prior to customer complaints being reported.
Before we had GlobalRoamer, these tests had
to be done manually; in other words we had
to contact other operators and ask them to
perform these tests. This proved to be very
time-consuming and the frequency of these
tests were at a much lower rate than with
GlobalRoamer.
[] Our experience has taught us that network
changes can lead to serious roaming problems
and, of course, you want to detect these as
soon as possible in order that the customers
are less inconvenienced.
To summarize, we can say that we are
enthusiastic about GlobalRoamer. It has helped
us in several cases to detect network errors
and because we were able to identify those
errors at an early stage we were able to
decrease the resolve time."

Inbound Roaming

What about your inbound roaming services?

Today, subscribers expect all frequently used
mobile services to work reliably everywhere in
the world. Thus, the quality and availability of
services inside and outside the home network
becomes increasingly important in the battle
for customers.
A large list of international roaming agreements
seems to be the key to success.
However, most operators simply suffer from a
lack of manpower to perform all IREG specified
test sets like IR 24, 26, 27, 29, 32, 35, 50 and
60 for often well over 200 Roaming partners.

Keynote SIGOS has facilitated IREG tests to run periodically and automatically,
using all your roaming partner SIM cards in no time spend. All sets of IREG
tests will release an ITU-T standardised report for all your roaming partners.

SMS

What about your Text Message Service?

SMS is the worldwide killer application for
network operators.
This simple network application results in an
immense increase of turnover for each network
operator. But it also means a constant monitoring
and improving of quality of service. SMS as
simple as it may look, monitored continuously,
Text Message Services often suffer from long
delivery durations, modification of content or
text missing with multiple SMS messages.
Regular tests are therefore required to maintain
a high standard of quality and improve customer
satisfaction.

Wireless Application Protocol technology had
to struggle a long time with initial difficulties.
The demand of mobile information, combined
with the use of mobile handsets, has become more
convenient and thus increasingly popular with
customers.
At the same time however, the introduction of
new WAP pages or the republish of existing
ones entails considerable risks.

Keynote SIGOS offers you a fully

automated test system for improving
the quality of your WAP services!

IVR

Do your voice response services

work correctly?
Interactive Voice Response services used for instance to check a mobile phone mailbox are a
common feature of everyday life. The situations
in which people communicate with a speaking
machine will increase continuously.
Testing these systems is essential for network
operators to assure the quality of their services
and thus keep their customers. IVR systems are
sophisticated and extremely difficult to test on
a continuous, assimilable and reliable way. At
present complicated test runs in which employees
must manually test telephone IVR systems are
to a large extent standard practice.
With its innovation, Keynote SIGOS has facilitated
this task to a powerful tool. The IVR tester is
designed that even the most sophisticated speech
menus may be recorded and recognised based
on a library of voice prompts.

Revenue Assurance System

Money makes the world go round

what happens if network operators cannot charge their
invoices or if invoices are even wrong?
For all network operators, Revenue Assurance
is of major importance. On one hand, to keep
a high and trusted image and to avoid discontented customers, on the other hand, to obviate
significant losses. Furthermore in most
countries Revenue Assurance is mandatory to
comply with legal regulations.

How to guarantee
correct invoices?
Today manual tests only provide inaccurate,
untrustworthy and in most cases very expensive
results. To assure correct charging a precise and
reliable Revenue Assurance system is essential.
With SITE, scheduled, continuous test of all
services provide maximum accuracy of all test
calls to be precisely mapped to call data
records or international TAP-files.

MMS

Success with MMS!

Multimedia Messaging Services is seen as a
step towards 2.5G and 3G services. In the light
of SMS, MMS can become the next killer
application and repeat the success of SMS.
Therefore, Multimedia Messaging is likely to
become the most important service in 3rd
generation networks.
However, Multimedia Messaging Services is a
young but sophisticated industry. Especially the
interworking of different services may cause
problems.
In order to reach the subscribers acceptance,
errors should be avoided from the beginning,
as once a service does not work, subscribers
turn away from it. Therefore, to aquire a high
reputation for Quality of Services (QoS), regular
tests are essential.
Test your services proactively and guarantee
your subscribers a high standard of quality!

Test the availability and services!
Business at every location, direct e-mail and
internet is todays life. Due to this, the number
of worldwide Wireless LAN (WLAN) access points
and users is continuously growing. Many mobile
network operators offer this type of convenient
internet access to their customers. The existing
customer SIM card is a preferred and the most
secure solution for identification and
authentication to this service.
However, if customers discover an unreliable or
inconvenient use of service, they will soon turn
away. Today, time to market and a maximum of
reliability, usability and quality is increasingly
important. With SITE WLAN its easy to test the
availability, the access and the performance of
hot spots on a flexible, continuous and most
accurate way.

Voice Quality

Do you offer excellent Voice Quality?

Voice quality is and will remain the key indicator
for each operators network quality. This is
recognised by subscribers and operators alike.
Not only the availability of services such as
answer rotation, dropped calls are of interest,
much more information on quality, delay or
noise determines the overall quality. Furthermore,
international Voice Quality tests can reveal
crucial quality information of different network
carriers, the usage of IP routing or SIM Boxes.
The SITE Voice Quality test is based on the ITUT P.862 standard via the PESQ algorithm. The
common idea behind perceptional quality
measurements it to mimic the subjective test,
where human beings would have to score the
quality of sound samples in a listening laboratory
environment

Video Telephony

You provide reliable video telephony

in 3G UMTS?
Video telephony is conditio sine qua non
in 3G UMTS an absolute must without which
it does not go!
A high acceptance of the mobile UMTS
subscriber is expected regarding the
introduction of video telephony.
However, this promising wireless service can
cause new problems across multi-technology
networks. It is mandatory for wireless service
providers to increase their subscribers average
revenue quickly by launching new services such
as video telephony. At the same time, they
must also maintain the same stable, consistent
quality their customers have come to expect.
Today where legacy services co-exist with
3G offerings, End-to-End testing and roaming
automation are critical requirements for service
deployment and profitability.
Therefore, the video telephony service should
be regularly tested with a trusted partner.

Video telephony with SITE

Video Telephony is a key service for 3G. Mobile VT is based on 3G-324M/H.324M protocol stack which
is the mobile extension of the H.324 stack. Currently the only reliable way for VT calls is to use a 64 kbps
circuit-switched connection to avoid delays as much as possible. So VT is a real high performance service
for mobile networks and it is currently only possible via 3G networks.

Push-to-Talk

Back to the Future with Push-to-Talk

The new "push-to-talk" services turn mobile

phones into walkie-talkies with unlimited range.
Mobile users like business men, delivery
companies, taxi drivers can connect in a
"walkie-talkie-style" at the touch of a button.
PoC a real-time, direct, 1-to-1 and 1-to-many
voice communication service is mandatory for
todays cellular networks. Companies, especially
those needing to be in constant touch with
several teams and locations, will soon discover
PoC as the most efficient solution. The benefit
of radio-style communication, especially
broadcasting to many users, makes it much
more convenient than many phone calls or even
call conferencing.

QoS testing solution for BlackBerry:

Sending a message from SITE test system to a BlackBerry
device via mobile operators network
Important: time synchronisation for time KPIs
BlackBerry device receives E-mails of the SITE test system
per "push" from the RIM Server and it immediately responds
to the sender with a receive timestamp
SITE extracts e.g. timestamp details from the E-mail and
processes them to measurements which can give delivery
delay or success rates in both directions

Video Quality

Is your network Video Quality excellent?

UMTS opens multimedia applications a new

world of possibilities. Customised infotainment
like streaming video, video messaging, mobile
TV and video telephony offer an unique
opportunity to create a market for highly
personalised and truly inimitable mobility
services.
For mobile customers the quality of services is
decisive for acceptance; especially for motion
picture based services, quality is the key factor
to success.
SITE delivers perceptual quality measurements
to reproduce the subscribers quality impression
mapped to the mean opinion score, similar to
other quality tests.
Be sure that your networks new multimedia

SITE Protocol Tests

SITE Protocol Test

SITE is a flexible solution, which offers an
extensive library of available test cases, that
fit with the majority of services defined in the
GSM standards and popular implementations
of other additional network features. These
tests enable operators to test the End-to-End
functionality of their network. However, it may
be necessary for a network operator to examine
the detailed signalling protocols that support
their services, or implement a non-standard
interconnection between internal network nodes
or external network operators.

CORE Network Testing

Our Keynote SIGOS Professional Services Team
offers you core network protocol tests on various
core network interfaces in GSM, GPRS, UMTS
and IN environments which are available with
the test system SITE.
Protocol tests are needed to analyse the
networks behaviour in detail and to reach a
high degree of interoperability between networks
and network components. Keynote SIGOS
engineers have developed test applications on
SITE and have supported various network
operators and vendors with its integration tests.

IN / CAMEL

Improve your IN / CAMEL test strategy!

CAMEL is the keyword for
intelligent service roaming
within GSM, GPRS and
UMTS networks.
For the differentiation of mobile market
competitors, the IN services play a major role.
Above all, the customers demand roaming as
they want to use the subscribed services across
international borders. Especially the prepaid
service, which drives the expansion of the
market. Therefore, network operators are required
to quickly introduce international roaming for
prepaid customers.

Keynote SIGOS offers you a fully automated

IN / CAMEL test system for
preparing your own network
for Camel roaming requirements
End-to-End testing with real
roaming partners
preparing your IN platform (SSP, SCP)

47

Testing of IN/CAMEL in the

GSM-GPRS-ISDN network environment

The introduction of IN or CAMEL based services affects

various interfaces of the network. In order to reduce
the implementation risks of services, all involved
components have to be tested on the related internal
interfaces of the network. For this kind of core network
protocol tests, the simulation of several components
is necessary.
Figure 1 points out which interfaces and network
components shall be tested for introducing the IN
or CAMEL services.
According to the network architecture drawn in figure 1
Keynote SIGOS has developed test scenarios for tests
on all relevant interfaces adjacent to the GSM/GPRS/ISDN
core networks. These kind of tests allow the vendor
or network provider to test either single network
components or their own network without any real
connection to other networks.
