Band
7th Grade
Band Rehearsal
Overview
Syncopation is the disturbance or interruption of the flow of rhythm in
music, or stressing and accenting music where stresses and accents
wouldnt normally occur. Syncopation is a common element in music
but can be difficult to learn. Much of the music that we listen to and
play uses syncopation in different ways. Syncopation was covered in
lessons this last week and can be reinforced in band.
Playing with a large group for band is a difficult task to achieve, with
so many moving parts it requires a lot of discipline from the students to
remain attentive, focus on improving, and developing a good sound
that complements the other performers in the band. The goal of the
rehearsal is also to cover a variety of music for them to explore different
styles.

Adaptions:
depending on the students ability to play
due to the student starting a new
instrument, braces, personal injuries or
inability to achieve skills lessons will be
adapted to the students needs.
- if rhythm is an issue exercises will be
done on a pitch that is comfortable for the
student.
- if a student is having trouble with
braces or personal injuries as much of the
lesson as possible will be done off the
instrument to help the student recover or
prevent pain or further discomfort
- If range is an issue such as playing
higher notes I will ask the students to try
their part but try to keep going. As it is
important for students to achieve a good
sound its more important for students to
learn how their part fits with the rest of the
band.
Evaluation:
Play the Warm Ups and evaluate
based on tone, pacing, and
articulation.
- Formative Assessment during
rehearsal
Demonstrate the difference between
marcato and legato
