AS MAN PROGRESSES IN ICT, HE REGRESSES IN MORALITY

Thank you Chairperson. Just adjudicators, esteemed time keepers, misguided Opposition team, my
fellow teammates, and last but not least members of the floor. A very good morning I bid you.
I, Kristy Vun as the second minister from the government team, will politely clear all the confusing
and dusty arguments brought up by the first speaker of the opposition team and later will present you with
two of our strong yet proven arguments.
Standing here as the second speaker of the government team, I would like to state our stand for todays
motion that is THE DEVELOPMENT MAN HAS OVER ICT HAS LED TO THE DEGRADATION
OF MORALITY. Thus, the motion today that is AS MAN PROGRESSES IN ICT, HE REGRESSES
IN MORALITY should be accepted and therefore must stand.
Members of the floor, before I proceed with our further arguments, allow me first to rebut the points
presented by the first speaker of the opposition team just now. He/she did mentioned that
Moving on to our second point,
Man progressing in ICT has made man to be more deceitful. People who are more active in
social media are someone thats easily deceived or cheated. There are people who gamble in the internet.
Just imagine theyre going to spend all day just to play games or gamble. Dont you think thats immoral
because theyre wasting their golden time or get addictive towards their games just for entertainment? On
top of that, some even seek pleasure through social media, some even get cheated and caused sexual rape
or assault in real life. Members of the floor, rape, wasting time, cyber-bullying, isnt it immoral for all of
you?

When man progresses in ICT, it is full of deception. Theres research done by a professor in a
university. There are 150 students failed to graduate from university. Why? Because of the plagiarism and
non-originality of their thesis assignment. They just simply copy-paste what they have found on the
internet. There are some students have someone to do their work by just paying them and claim that it is
theirs. This is what we called man progressing in ICT has caused man to be full of deception. In recent
news reported in Asia Broadcasting Company news, in one of the universities in India, there were almost
13 students who had been scraped off of their master titles just because of being caught in plagiarising.
They did their thesis and claimed that it was theirs but in actual fact was that they simply copied and pasted
most of the researches done from other sources and what made it even easier was that they did it with the
knowledge they have in ICT. This only further proves that their progressing in ICT had caused to their
regression of morality because their act of plagiarising is indeed unethical and unacceptable.
Another case, when man progressing in ICT, it will cause man to be someone who they are not in
real life. For instance, you may receive a 'friend request' on Facebook from someone you vaguely
remember from your childhood but how do you determine if the person making the request is a genuine
person or someone masquerading as such in order to obtain personal information from your Facebook

page? You cannot guarantee that right? Besides that, some people may be talkative and active in whatsapp
or any other social media, but they are another person, another side in real life compared what her
personality is in social media. She isnt herself and that is the when she progresses in ICT, she regresses in
morality!
Moving on to our third point,
Man progressing ICT has caused man to be more violent and aggressive. Let me give you a
situation here, place two fighting boys in a room. One is holding nothing, one is holding a stone. The boy
with nothing will do nothing, but the boy with a stone will of course use the stone and throw it against the
other boy. So you see, the boys represent the teenagers and the stone represent social networking sites. For
the teens who do not use social networking sites, there are not much to do but the teens who depend on
social networking sites will use the social networking sites as a tool which encourage them to be more
violent and aggressive in expressing their emotions or anger. With the advancement of ICT, people tend to
get braver than he is in real life or face to face. Lewis Leikin, a child psychologist and clinical professor at
the University of Ottawa, Canada said, When online, people say and do things they would not say and do
face to face.
Of course we never deny that some people nowadays are violent and aggressive in showing their
hatred. But what we are trying to prove here is, man progressing in ICT is able to encourage them to be
even more violent than they already are in the real world. In October 2006, a fake MySpace profile created
in the name of Josh Evans by Lori Janine Drew led to suicide of Megan Meier. Without using ICT like
social networking sites, the impact of Lori Janines bullying will be small and insignificant. But by using
this ICT, the sites have made it possible for Lori Janine to be more aggressive in showing her hatred
through the act of cyber-bullying. So, man progressing in ICT will lead them to do more undesirable acts in
a more aggressive manner.

By the researches that I have stated earlier, I have proven to you my misguided opposition team that
man progressing in ICT can regress the morality of the man. Before I take my seat, I would like to stress
our stand and motion once again. We believe that, THE DEVELOPMENT MAN HAS OVER ICT HAS
LED TO THE DEGRADATION OF MORALITY, thus, the motion for today that is AS MAN
PROGRESSES IN ICT, HE REGRESSES IN MORALITY, does stand. And thus, should be accepted, I
repeat, accepted. With that, I rest my case, thank you.
