Professional and Enterprise Development In-course Assignment


The assessment for this module comprises of two distinct parts. Part 1 is individual work with
the aim of preparing you for the recruitment process. Part 2 is a combination of group work
and an individual reflection based on the group work.
I. Part 1 Personal Portfolio (30%)
You have been introduced to the concept of Personal Branding, Verbal Business Cards, writing
CVs and Cover Letters. The objective of Part 1 is to develop your own personal development
portfolio by applying these concepts to prepare your own applications paperwork. As a
preparatory step, your portfolio must include the following:
1. A job advertisement relevant to your discipline. This is accompanied by a short report

stating the reasons why the vacancy is suitable for you and your award.
A Cover Letter in response to the job advertisement in item 1, with the following:
a. an introductory paragraph stating the purpose for writing
b. a paragraph citing reasons for interest in the aforementioned vacancy and the Company
c. a paragraph justifying why you are a strong candidate for the vacancy
d. a closing paragraph
A CV taking into account the following pointers:
a. be a maximum of a double-sided A4-sized paper
b. clearly formatted with well-defined sections
c. does not contain any spelling or grammatical errors
d. highlight relevant qualifications, skillset and experience with proof of evidence
e. provide at least one (1) referee
Five (5) interview questions you foresee will be asked during the related interview
inclusive of a scoring criteria and rating
Explain the role of professional bodies and provide two (2) codes of conduct and two (2)
professional ethics that you can apply during the course of the interview
Part 2 Student Project (70%)

Part 2 which comprises of Part A and B, is described as follows.


A. Group Work (50%)
As most significant results today are achieved through teamwork, Part A seeks to accomplish
synergy by undertaking an extracurricular activity. Extracurricular activities are paramount to
personal development in the collegiate experience to develop and improve skills in teambuilding, leadership and communications while excelling academically.

With an endless selection of enrichment activities, you and your group are to plan for an event
for a good cause. This event should aid you to understand the organizational context where
professional work occurs which includes planning, managing, decision making and
developing innovative ideas to raise funds, which are all valuable entrepreneurial traits.
Each group will be assigned a specific task for the event e.g. planning for Logistics, Public
Relations or any relevant task. As such, your group is to produce a detailed report of the
event, taking into account the following factors:
1. Planning
a. Aims and Objectives
b. High-level Plan
- Spending a day at the facility , help with the activities
c. Entrepreneurial skills in fund-raising
d. Assumptions and constraints
2. Execution
a. Estimating
b. Resource Allocation (Work Break-down Structure)
c. Effort
3. Report
a. Critical analysis of the projects success factors
The assignment must draw upon the materials taught in lectures and tutorials, as well as any
background reading or research that you deem appropriate. Your group should consist of four
members, however, additional team members will be allowed based on the discretion of the
module lecturer. The word limit for Part A is 3000 words.
B. Individual Reflection (20%)
It is now time to evaluate yourself within the context of the group work. This is a personal
reflection through a critical evaluation of your personal development needs in your quest to
become a professional to achieve a work-life balance. The reflection based on your ability
during the group-learning experience in Part A should not only express your growing
awareness of your strengths and weaknesses, in particular to your communications and teamworking skills but also to discover personal branding.
You are to produce a critical evaluation on how you have addressed these traits by citing the
importance of extracurricular activity, self-awareness of skill level and plans for
improvements, and the value of this module. This can be done by doing a before and after
self-analysis. The word limit for Part B is 1000 words.

Guide on reflective writing:


1. It is an opportunity for you to gain an insight of yourself and your personal development
needs through a deeper reflection on your experiences and consideration of other related
perspectives.
2. Learning is a continuous process where it is not only sufficient to have an experience in
order to learn but without a reflection upon your experience it may almost certainly be
forgotten and its learning potential lost.
3. Understanding your own obstacles to your behavior and recognizing that all forms of
communications can either enhance or impair team-work, behavior and results.
4. Do not evaluate your team members. Please do not refer to your team member by name,
gender or ethnicity. Please use the third-person perspective (member A or B).

Marking Criteria
Distinction: 75 to 100 marks
Demonstrated comprehensive research with detailed evidence. High level of analysis performed,
exceptional and thorough knowledge and understanding displayed with regard to application. This
includes analysis and evaluation of facts followed by results of evaluation. Good quality
documentation with no spelling or grammatical errors, presented in a professional manner, following
proper sequencing and flow. Displayed evidence of critical appraisal.
Credit: 65 to 74 marks
Adequate research conducted with fair detail of evidence presented. Moderate level of understanding,
analysis and knowledge displayed. Some level of relevance included in terms of application. Moderate
level of analysis and evaluation of facts followed by results comparison. Good level documentation
presented. Some level of reflection was evident in the documentation. Moderate level of critical
appraisal.
