Visiting Yogya Distribution Centre Report

On Tuesday, September 22nd 2015, SBM ITB was going to PT. Akur
Pratama (Yogya Group). The purpose of this activity is that students can
learn about the companys supply chain where they can see and know
firsthand how the distribution of goods, storage and display of goods
before in the hands of consumers.
The event was opened with film show about work safety, and then
continued with the introduction of management team and the history of
Yogya Group. Yogya Group previously appeared as a local retail player who
come from a small batik shop into a local retail that is growing rapidly with
many business units and different types of stores. Yogya Group
established many types of stores to meet the needs of society, both small
and large scale such as Griya Mart, Yomart, Department Stores,
Supermarkets, and department Store. Some private labels of Yogya are
also quite famous, for example Bread Co, Magic Oven, Happy Duck, Elips,
Ann Design, Chicken Sume, Paper co and others.
After that presentation was continued by Mr. I Nyoman Taktik about
how the operation of Distribution Centre (DC) in Yogya Group. He
explained that in order to facilitate the distribution channels in retail
companies to get to the store requires DC or sub-DC. Previously, the
company used a direct distribution channel from vendors to shops; that it
was difficult for Yogya in checking goods, so that DC was established to
facilitate the distribution process. Items which come received with
sophisticated computerized system with barcode by category. Storage
period is set based classification and retrieval is adapted to the length of
storage. Storage of household items such as, food, electronics and fashion
is also organized by the code and the date of entry and exit. This activity
is managed by professionals who have been trained in advance.
In Yogya Group there are 5 daily activities in retail process, Ordering,
Receiving, Warehousing, Displaying, and Selling.
Ordering

: Ordering is a process that Yogya Group order product from


various vendors. They make direct, sub DC, and DC in the
ordering for distributing process. It previously just using
direct distribution channel from vendors to shops but it was
difficult for Yogya in checking goods.

Receiving

: Receiving is a process that Yogya Group receive any supply


from vendor or to the store. They check the quality to
prevent any defect and put it in the database quickly using a
barcode scanner.

Warehousing: Warehousing is a process that Yogya Group keep their


supply before it sent to the store. In this warehouse, Yogya
Group buy any supply in a giant quantity and save it in the

warehouse using FIFO (firs in firs out), so they keep the goods
not to be in expired dates.
Displaying : Displaying is a process in the store, that it makes costumer
easier to access to the products. Many aspect is being used
in this displaying process.
Selling

: Selling is a process that making sure that the goods is


already out from the store, so Yogya Group can used is as a
data for counting their revenue.
