Introduction
icon is a product of Handrail Design, a Trade
Contractor to the Construction Industry,
specialising in the design, supply and installation
of Architectural handrail and balustrades. Handrail
Design are pioneers of modular system solutions
and unlike Architectural Metalworkers, do not
engage in bespoke fabrications. icon advocates
clean lines using highly engineered components
with sophisticated means of assembly, unsightly
welds do not feature in any aspect of the range.

The latest addition to the icon range brings
a new concept to modular balustrades with
uprights made from paired aluminium flats,
braced together by means of unique CUBE
components.

icon VIEU
A system solution for structural glass balustrades
with stainless steel boss fixings offering an attractive
alternative to the complex methods adopted by a
traditionally bespoke marketplace.

Sales representatives are on hand to offer budget
prices, assist with NBS specifications, provide
advice on Building Regulations and resolve technical
queries. Product presentations can be arranged
in order to evaluate each option and help with
selecting finishes.

Enquiry & Quotation

All enquiries, including Main Contractor tender
invitations, should be addressed to the Handrail
Design Estimating Department or emailed to
info@handraildesign.co.uk. Initial enquiries should
indicate the required specification and include
plans and sectional drawings of the project in
order to define the scope of work and interface
details. Following receipt of an enquiry a written
quotation is compiled including a specification,
priced Bill pages or a schedule of the estimated
quantities required.

Management
When appointed, the Handrail Design Contracts
Department take over the scheme to establish
programme particulars and ensure the contract
is professionally managed through to completion.
Contracts and Site Operations Managers deliver
the project safely and on time.

Process
When construction is suitably advanced, Engineers
undertake a precise site survey of the areas
associated with each scheme. AutoCAD working
drawings are draughted and following the
Architects approval of these details, all materials
proceed into manufacture.

Installation
Handrail Designs products are highly engineered
and factory finished, requiring only assembly on
site by specialist installation teams. The accuracy
of processing affords glass infill panels to be
produced to AutoCAD drawings allowing these
elements to be installed in a single continuous site
attendance.

supplied in a combination of both. Natural
Hardwood handrails compliment either finish
and NyMet coatings range from unique
metallics to an endless choice of BS, RAL

The design concept was conceived by pairing

extruded aluminium flat bar uprights and bracing
these together by means of unique CUBE
components that interlock inside rebates within
the inner faces of each baluster section.

icon VIEU is an intelligent system solution for

structural glass balustrading. In a complex and
predominantly bespoke marketplace, the product
offers logical predetermined specifications for
high-end structural glass requirements.

The system is extremely flexible offering numerous

bracket designs for wall mounted handrails.
Balustrade options include in line or offset glass,
perforated steel panels, intermediate rails or
stainless steel tensioned wire ropes.

The icon Boss fixing simplifies the structural glass

connection thereby offering a more commercially
attractive solution whilst facilitating ease of panel
replacement without disturbing the surrounding

Finishes
NyMet Range
NyMet is generally applied as a semi gloss finish
and is available in an exclusive range of metallics
together with black and white as the primary range
of options. Standard BS or RAL colours are also
offered and even special solid colours or metallics
can be formulated upon request.

Stainless Steel
The Stainless Steel icon system is produced in 304
grade for internal use and 316 grade for external
applications. A refined, brushed satin finish is
directionally applied to most components whereas
tubes are radially polished and certain castings are
glass bead blasted.

Natural Hardwoods
icon offers a contemporary selection of factory
polished and lacquered Hardwood handrails.
Other species can be considered upon request
and all Hardwoods used for icon handrails are
supplied from sustainably managed sources.
