Brakes India was incorporated in 1962 as a joint venture between
T V Sundram Iyengar and Sons Ltd., and Lucas Industries Ltd., UK
(Subsidiary of TRW Inc. USA) to manufacture braking equipment for
automotive and non-automotive applications. It caters to over 60%
of the domestic OEM market besides exporting its products to over
35 countries worldwide. The sales turnover for the year 2004-2005
was Rs.9720 million (US $ 221 million).
The Brakes Division manufacturing sites are located at Chennai,
Sholinghur and Polambakkam in Tamilnadu, Nanjangud in Karnataka,
Gurgaon in Haryana, Halol in Gujarat and Waki in Maharashtra. The
Chennai, Sholinghur and Polambakkam sites are ISO 14001 and TS
16949 certified and have received the award for TPM Excellence.
Gurgaon site is TS 16949 certified and Nanjangud site is QS 9000 &
ISO 14001 certified.
The Foundry Division manufactures permanent mould die-castings,
Grey Iron and SG castings using the Disamatic process. The Foundry
Division is TS 16949, ISO 14001 certified and has received Deming
prize and award for TPM excellence.
The Polymer Division manufactures Engineering Plastic compounds
and Injection moulded components for various application and is ISO
9001-2000 and ISO 14001 certified.

T.V. Sundram Iyengar & Sons, India manufacturing Diesel Fuel Injection
Equipment for Cars, Sports-Utility and Multi-Utility Vehicles, Light

is a 50:50 joint venture between Lucas-TVS Limited, Chennai, and
Koito Manufacturing Company Limited, Japan. The company
manufactures headlamps, rear combination lamps and various other
signal lamps for automotive applications. The headlamps and rear
combination lamps are aerodynamically styled and represent the

particularly two-wheeler finance for TVS Motor vehicles.
By penetrating deep into the pockets of the Southern States, the
Company has made financing options available in areas that were
hitherto untapped by players in the industry. With a slew of products
to come in the retail financing space, TVS-FS is all set to rewrite the
rules of the game, yet again.
The objective to completely focus in retail financing has started
yielding good results with the disbursement in this segment going up
to Rs. 192 Cr during 2004-05 as against Rs. 138 Cr in the previous
year. The emphasis is on growth of the retail portfolio built on a
strong platform of (a) relationships with the group companies namely
TVS Motor Company Ltd and TVS Electronics Ltd, (b) strong alliances
with the dealer network of these companies, (c) focus on deep rural
penetration through depth domination model and (d) further
strengthening the risk management policies.
