Serve with a Servants Heart
We all understand that serving others in the name of Jesus is one of the
foundations of the Christian Faith. But do we always serve others with
joy? Jesus set the example of how to love God and serve His people. He
has also shown us how to serve with humility and out of love and
obedience to the Father. This weeks message is entitled Serve with a
Servants Heart. We will be looking at Pauls writing to the Philippians, in
particular chapter 2 verses 1 through 11. Paul writes to the saints in
Christ Jesus at Philippi:
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit but in humility
consider others above yourselves. Each of you should look not only to
your own interests but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should
be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who being in very nature God, did
not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself
nothing taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness
and being found in appearance as a man he humbled himself and became
obedient to death
When we serve others as Christ calls us to, it is not in itself the act of
service that of utmost importance to God, rather it is the heart and the
intentions behind the act of service. If we serve by doing projects around

the church, being on committees,

and go on mission trips; but do not
share the same attitude of Christ,
we fall short. If we are honest,
even the most mature among us
at times has served the church or
others out of an attitude of I have
to, or Im supposed to. We are
after all human, and we do fall
short of the perfection of Christ,
but each day we live, we have the
opportunity to allow the Holy Spirit
to empower us with an attitude of
gratitude, a love for the Father
and his son Jesus Christ, and a
love for the people of this world.
When we serve out of love and
allow the Spirit to mold our
attitudes into those of Jesus, we
serve with the full power and
purpose of God and in return,
we find great fulfillment in serving.

ESUMCs programs are changing lives as we continue to extend
the love of Christ through critical ministries. We invite those who
have the heart for service and desire to change lives for Christ to
make a commitment to support these important ministries.
Ministry Placement Stewardship Team offers you the opportunity
to meet some of the participants in each ministry for more
information regarding the need and scope of your commitment to
serve. Commitment cards will be available.

Stephen Ministry

Where two or three are

gathered in my name, I am
among them.
In Matthew18, Jesus promised
to be with us. Thats one of the
great miracles of Stephen Ministry, When a Stephen Minister
meets one-on-one with his or
her care receiver, Jesus is present too! He brings the power
of His transforming love, and
the peace, healing, and comfort that only God can give.
Good things happen!

use. Please cut the labels down the front of the can to avoid tearing
the label. They will not accept the badly torn ones.
