Restasis (cyclosporine) immunosuppressive agent Used in Keratoplasty (Corneal transplant)

*Pilocarpine (miotic) reduces IOP, used for open-angle glaucoma; blurred vision, nausea
vomiting; apply light finger pressure on lacrimal sac 1 minute after applying drops
*Diamox (diuretic/carbonic anhydrase inhibitor) in glaucoma drug reduces intraocular
pressure; seizures, drowsiness, nausea vomiting; daily weight measure I/O
*Cyclogyl (Cyclopentolate) (anticholinergic agent) is used to dilate (enlarge) the pupil; used in
glaucoma or retinal detachment
*Mannitol (osmotic diuretic) decreases intracranial pressure; shock increased B/P,
monitor fluid and electrolytes; duration of action 1-3 hours
*Betoptic (antiglaucoma/beta blocker) reduces the pressure within the eye (intraocular
pressure). This effect is thought to be caused by reducing the production of the liquid (which
is called the aqueous humor) within the eye; insomnia, depression, dizziness, headache. Do
not touch dropper on the eye
*Timoptic (beta adrenergic blocker) treats glaucoma by reducing aqueous humour production
through blockage of the beta receptors on the ciliary epithelium. First beta-blocker approved
for topical use in treatment of glaucoma in the USA (1978); confusion, heart failure (-optic =
BETA BLOCKER)
Ocuvite is a supplement made from natural ingredients that is thought to help with macular
degeneration caused by the aging process, as well as some degenerative eye diseases The
same ingredients can be found in the foods we eat
*Dexamethasone (Decadron) (steroid) decrease inflammation; is present in certain eye drops
particularly after eye surgery; upset stomach
*Garamycin (Gentamicin) antibiotics. Used for pink eye blepharitis (pill) and conjunctivitis
(drops); use full course of therapy

Avoid driving for 1-2 hours after administration of miotics

Avoid the use of mydriatic or cycloplegic drugs that dilate the pupils in glaucoma

**Neomycin is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body can be ototoxic and
neuphrotoxic (given for middle ear infection but can cause deafness) **Polymycin also
called Cortisporin
**Bactrim (antibacterial) for acute otitis media
**Cerumenex - cerumen wax removal
**Ceclor treat amoxicillin-resistant otitis media (keep in frig)
Cortisporin combination antibiotic and cortisone-like medicine. It can be used to treat

**Hydrocortisone (corticosteroid )used to treat a variety of skin conditions
(Hydrocortisone reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these
types of conditions. This medication is a mild corticosteroid.
