WAX TRANSITIONS
3D Remote Control (Optimized for TV)
The default brightness of the Remote Control model is decreased to avoid
flickering when the video is viewed in a TV.
To restore brightness and get the full scale of reflections and details, turn off the
Light 3d plugin.
You can also experiment by changing "Color" (white to gray degree) and "Diffuse"
settings in the Light 3d plugin to get different brightness results.
Fade and Dissolve (Presets using the Compositing modes)
The Additive, Differential, Excluding, Lighten, Screen and Subtractive dissolve
transitions use a white (235) bitmap in the respective track mode placed between
two media tracks and affecting their blended output thus the name. Though the
name can be the same or similar to transitions found in other NLEs the effect is
different.
Each of the transitions effect intensity can be more or less pronounced depending
the media colors and contrast. The white plane acts as a (gradually decreasing)
filter by adding, subtracting etc. the white color from the media resulting in
changes to the media's colors tones and brightness during the transition.
Split Screen3
These are transitions presets that act as filters.
They need three video sources.
In Wax Standalone:
Add three media files in the Media Pool.
Drop one at a time in the Track View or in the timeline to create the tracks.
Apply the transition to the first track.
In Vegas:
Click on the "Automatic Crossfades" button.
Overlap two adjacent clips in the main track for the duration you want the effect to
last and drop the transition preset on the crossfade.
In the track under the main track align the video clip that it will be displayed in the
alpha placeholder defined in each preset.
Note that the transition over the two overlapping clips will not mix them together
instead it will display each clip in a separate window.
All presets split the screen in three parts and there are 32 variations regarding
windows position.
The names are indicative for each effect.
"H" stands for "Horizontal" and "V" for "Vertical." In Vegas "A" refers to the first clip
(left), "B" refers to the second clip (right). "Alpha" refers to the clip in the track under
the main track. In Wax standalone A, B and Alpha refer to clips in separate tracks.
Twins...
These presets are intended for use in your NLE with the Wax transition's plugin.
These presets have modified "Camera" settings in "Global settings" and they will
not display correctly in Wax standalone. Wax will alert you whenever you try to
apply any of the above transitions in a project. (See also: Lights)
Twins... Filters
In track three change "Texture Generator" settings to create your own background
texture.
You can also disable this plugin and take advantage of the alpha channel
displaying a third video clip in the background. (See also: Split Screen3)
WAX EFFECTS
Usage:
Some effects should be applied to a video track above the main video track while
other should be applied to the main video track.
If an effect is using the alpha channel letting the video of the track underneath to
be displayed then the video with the effect should be placed above the main track.
(PIP, Flashing Windows, Split Screen, etc.)
If a video effect is intended to affect only one source of video then it should be
applied on the video of the main track (Molecules Frames, Blue Liquid, etc.)
There are two kinds of effects:
Those that can be applied over any video length, behaving like a video filter
(Colors, Split Screen etc.) and effects that use keyframes for composing a
sequence that is changing through time. The last will give results that will vary
depending the length of the video.
For example applying any of the "Lights 2 Spotlights" effect over a five-second
video will make the Spotlights to appear-travel-and disappear off the screen at half
the speed than if the effect was applied to a ten-second video.
Blue Liquid
Apply this effect over a single piece of video. If applied on two consecutive
segments starting and ending textures shapes won't match resulting in an abrupt
transition.
In Wax standalone preview is accurate in Full Quality display mode.
Also in Vegas the effect's output will vary depending the preview mode.
Colored Screen (Presets with vertical split only)
In Wax standalone preview is correct in both "Draft" and "Best" quality modes.
In Sony Vegas previewing and rendering the effect with the "Best" option selected
in Wax properties window will make the edges of the two panes create a vertical
line not quite uniform. Using the "Draft" mode can resolve this display issue.
Colors (Optimized for TV)
Colors values have been adjusted using a TV set in PAL.
For NTSC some tweaking may be needed.
Computer monitors will display colors less bright and dark gray areas may appear
as black.
Flashing Windows
Apply the presets in a video track above the main video track.
Tweak settings used for windows' creation-destroy and for adjusting the frequency
they appear.
right half of the screen, but the subject happens to be at the opposite side (The
side that is cut).
VHS Tape Stretched and TV Bad V Sync
Apply these effects on very short video segments. Try with times less than or
equal to five seconds.
Windows PIP (Picture in Picture)
Presets for: Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Right and Centered windows.
There are three series of five presets each:
Windows covering quarter of the screen.
TV1 and TV2 are smaller windows suitable for TV display.
TV1 presets create windows positioned between the margins that define the safe
areas for "movie action" and "titles" in the TV.
TV2 presets create smaller windows positioned on the margin that defines the
safe area for "titles" in the TV.
If your camera isn't recording the whole frame area, a black border may appear next
to the window's edges. To remove it, open Wax properties window and expand the
Quick 3d plugin. In the Crop settings use a value of approximately 15-20 for the
side(s) with the visible border.
If you edit any of the presets in Wax standalone application, consider saving the
modified preset under a new file name. If you overwrite any of the original presets
files you will have to re-install Wax to restore the original preset's settings.
In Sony Vegas:
All transitions default to the "Draft Quality (Auto)" setting for faster previewing
during video editing. Remember that prior rendering your Vegas project you
should open the Wax Transition Properties window and select "Best Auto" or "Best
Full." (If the option is hidden, drag the right edge of the dialog window to resize it
until it appears).
Of course if you change the Wax preview quality setting (or any other parameter
setting) and save the project, changes are retained next time the project is
opened.
If you want to make any changes permanent in a Wax transition/Effect, open the
preset file in Wax standalone application, perform the changes you want and save
the transition or effect preset under a new name.
Notes regarding the option "Use Dummy Host Media in Wax plugin for Sony Vegas"
in Wax preference window
When this option is enabled:
You may experience that after saving and reopening a Vegas project, Wax
transitions are not displayed in the preview window. (The screen is black).
After opening your Vegas project, open one of the Wax transition properties
windows and close it, after this preview will work for all Wax transitions in the
project.
Some DV cameras may not record over the entire frame area.
This makes resized video and video frames that move across the screen to appear
with a black border.
You can use "Event Pan/Crop" to get rid of the black border that in some of the
transitions may be visible and not wanted.
Render time
You will notice that some of the transitions/effects require significant longer time to
render especially when the Best mode is selected in Wax. Depending the transition's
complexity and the 3d objects used render time will vary among different presets.
