TEACHING LEARNING RESORCES

Slides: Slides containing the result of the sum of the exterior angle of a polygon.
Activity card: Activity card containing questions related to the concept.
Models: Wooden models of triangles.
Chart: Chart for students to paste polygons cut off from the cardboard.

Cardboard, scissors ,eerkil bits, gum, box containing lots.

CLASSROOM INTERACTION PROCEDURE

EXPECTED PUPIL
RESPONSE
INTRODUCTION
Class begins with a poem about polygons,
I am a two dimensional shape.
I am a closed figure.
I have more than two sides.
I have equal number of edges and vertices.
I have no adjacent sides as collinear.
Can you tell who am I ?

ACTIVITY-2
Giving a box of eerkil bits and an activity card.
Arrange the eerkil bits as in the instructions given below and answer
the following questions in it.
INSTRUCTIONS
Make a triangle as shown below using the eerkil bits and
mark the outer angles.

Place other three sticks parallel to these and make a smaller

triangle with same angles.
Shrink it a little more like this.
Repeat it until there is no triangle at all.

4, Now find each exterior angle of the polygon?
5, Calculate the sum of the exterior angles of the polygon?
Through discussions and explanations and with the help of teacher, students
determined that for any n sided polygon, sum of the outer angle is 360.Then a slide
was presenting which contain the result of the sum of the exterior angle of a polygon.

Exterior angle of a polygon

The sum of the exterior angle of a polygon is 360
Students reading the slide.

APPLICATION / REVIEW (Group wise competition)

Giving a box of lots which contain some angle measurements. Tell the students
selecting the lots correctly.

Pupil

to select three lots from the box with angle sum 360 and put them in the triangular
box placed on the table. Again select four lots from the box and then five lots from the
box with angle sum 360.Put them in the quadrilateral box and pentagonal box placed
on the table.

FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY
All angles in an 18 sided polygon are equal. Find all the outer angles?
The sum of the outer angle of a polygon is twice the sum of the inner angle. How many sides
does it have?
What about the number of sides if the sum of the outer angle is half the sum of the inner
angle?
