The routineness of the morning had begun. People who lived by the sea and lived of the sea
were dressing, eating breakfast, and calling to their children. Fishermen checked their nets, prepar-
ing to launch out in their boats in search of the day!s catch. Everything moved in a normal rhythm
against the backdrop of the ceaseless washing of the ocean.
Suddenly the sound changed as the waves were sucked backwards, out and out and out, baring
the ocean!s floor many feet beyond the beach. Fish were left behind, struggling for life. Like a great
breath, inhaled, the water stood away from the shoreline. Shocked villagers stared in disbelief at the
strange scene before their eyes. Some began trying to catch the flopping fish. Others were mes-
merized, as though rooted to the spot where they stood.
The sound changed again. An unearthly roaring filled numb ears as a monster boiled and
churned in the distance. Swelling out of the sea,
the wall of water grew to a height of forty feet,
crashing out over the shoreline, lifting everything
in its path. Houses were torn from their founda-
tions, boats were flung over the tops of buildings,
cars were flattened against power poles. In the
carnage of destruction, human bodies became
flotsam, tossed on the crest of the water and bur-
ied under massive layers of debris.
And then it was over. The water returned to its
ocean bed, washing against a new shoreline,
eroded and changed forever by the power of the
tsunami. Those humans who were left stood
transfixed where their run of terror had ended.
They lived still. The monster had gone. The sea again resumed its normal sound of waves against
the sand.
But their world lay in massive destruction at their feet. Unearthly screams and wails filled the air.
Names of loved ones were cried in anguish — urgency — panic, when there was no answer. Where
were the children, the wife, the husband, the elderly parents? Had they run fast enough to escape?
Had they been washed inland? Were they buried under the mounds of rubble? Had they been
swept out to sea in the receding waves that seemed to take everything with them?
Out of a sunny normal morning, the
nightmare of horror closed in. In a few min-
utes of time their entire world was de-
stroyed, their lives forever changed.

In the late 1970s, there was a need to make available scripturally sound and
scientifically accurate materials in apologetics among the churches of Christ.
The idea for Apologetics Press was born—an idea that soon became a reality.
The necessary legal steps then were taken to allow the work to be recognized as
non-profit and tax-exempt by both State and Federal governments. In 1985,
Apologetics Press moved into its own custom-built, 11,000-square-foot building
that was debt-free upon completion. Financial records are managed by certified
public accountants, who also submit to the appropriate agencies all documenta-
tion required by State and Federal law.
Currently, Dr. Dave Miller serves as the Executive Director. Dr. Miller, Kyle
Butt, and Eric Lyons compose the fulltime professional writing staff, assisted by
an auxiliary staff of scientists and other writers, including Dr. Will Brooks, Dr.
Joe Deweese, Dr. Jerry Fausz, Dr. Michael Houts, Kevin Cain, Jeff Miller, James
Spencer, and Matt Vega as well as an office support staff that includes secretar-
ies, production administrators, a Spanish translator, a graphics-design artist, and
a scientific illustrator.
What We Believe
The following principles of truth are accepted by those who actively partici-
pate in this work:
God exists, and man can know that God exists, by means of His manifold
revelations, both in nature and through the inspired Word of God, the Holy Bible.
The entire material Universe was specially created by this Almighty God in six
days of approximately 24 hours each, as revealed in Genesis 1 and Exodus 20:11.
Both biblical and scientific evidence indicate a relatively young earth, in
contrast to the evolutionary views of a multi-billion-year age for the Earth.
Both biblical and scientific evidence indicate that many of the Earth’s fea-
tures must be viewed in light of a universal, catastrophic flood (i.e., the Noahic
Flood as described in Genesis 6-8).
All compromising theories such as theistic evolution, progressive creation-
ism, threshold evolution, the gap theory, the modified gap theory, the day-age
theory, the non-world view, etc., are denied and opposed as patently false.
Christianity is the one true religion; Jesus Christ is the only divine Son of
God, resurrected Lord, and Savior of all who lovingly obey Him.
The 66 books of the Bible are fully and verbally inspired of
God; hence, they are inerrant and authoritative, and a complete
guide for moral and religious conduct.
Salvation is by means of obedience to the Gospel system,
involving faith in God and Christ, repentance from sin, con-
fession of faith, and immersion in water for remission of past
sins, coupled with a life of growing consecration and dedication.
Those enjoying salvation are members of the one true
church, which is the body of Christ.

Study Centre. My father agreed to let me use his apartment
for this noble work. It is now my residence as well as my
office. Also, it has a small sitting area, which is being used
for conducting Sunday Evening Bible Studies, Personal Bible

local newspapers, and I have distributed thousands of leaflets

Our work continues to grow and spread. The Bible cor-

At the time we took on that work, we made the decision to

still go at least one time per year and give the church some

1972, we believed in the importance of the 3 E’s in mission
work: Evangelizing, Edifying, and Equipping.
What a challenge and opportunity we have in the Pacific
Islands. It is the largest area of the world that the Lord has cre-
ated. There are 22 countries, 30,000 islands, and over 6 million
people. In the Pacific we are active in evangelizing, but also
really emphasizing the need for edifying and equipping those
that are baptized. We do that in many ways: Sunday and
Wednesday Bible classes, worship sermons, and workshops.
When we lived in Fiji we operated the School of Biblical
Training, and the same when we lived in American Samoa and
the Northern Mariana Islands. These schools added to and
more adequately met the needs locally in those countries. In
these training schools we brought Christians together weekly
for teaching and training.
Because the Lord’s church was spreading throughout the
Pacific Islands, I started talking to older, mature brethren in
many of the countries of the area. I could see that there was a
great need for edifying and equipping more Christians. From
this came a dream for a school that would encompass the en-
tire Pacific, one that would not take the students from the
country where they lived. It would not require putting people
on U.S. financial support, and it would not limit the number
of students we could edify and equip. Pacific Islands Bible
College is the fruition of that dream.
There was much discussion about how we wanted to set
up the school, praying, preparing with our Pacific Islands
brethren, our elders at the Forest Park congregation in At-
lanta, and our mission team. In April 1996, we launched the
school. In order to accomplish the most, we designed this Stacy Ferguson, with his translator,
