Answer all questions

Part A - (5 x 2 = 10)
1. If an amplifier has a gain of 400 and feedback ratio is 0.1, find the gain with negative
feedback.
2. Compare the input and output resistance for a voltage and current shunt feedback amplifier.
3. Mention two essential conditions for a circuit to maintain oscillations.
4. What is return ratio of a feedback amplifier?
5. In a Hartley oscillator, if L1 = 0.2 mH, L2 = 0.3 mH and C = 0.003 F. Calculate the frequency
of its oscillations.
Part B - (2 x 16 + 1 x 8 = 40)

(a) (i) Draw the block diagram of feedback amplifier and discuss the effect of negative
feedback with respect to closed loop gain, bandwidth and distortion.

(8)

(ii) If an amplifier has a bandwidth of 300 KHz and a voltage gain of 100, what will be the new
bandwidth and gain if 10% negative feedback is introduced? What will be the gain-bandwidth
product before and after feedback? What should be the amount of feedback if the bandwidth
is to be limited to 800 KHz?

(b) (i) With a neat circuit diagram, explain which type of feedback is employed in a BJT-emitter
follower and obtain the expressions for AV, AI, Ri & RO.

(8)

(ii) The voltage shunt feedback amplifier has the following values of circuit parameters.
Rs = 600 , hie = 5 K, hfe = 80, RL = 2 K, RB = 40 K. Calculate Av, Rif, Avf, Rof and Rof.
(8)
7. (a)(i) Draw the circuits of voltage shunt and current series feedback amplifiers and derive
the expressions for input impedance Rif.

(8)

(ii) An amplifier, with feedback, has voltage gain of 100. When the gain without feedback
changes by 20% and the gain with feedback should not vary more than 2%. If so, determine
the vales of open loop gain A and feedback ratio .

frequency of oscillation for a Colpitts oscillator.

(10)

(ii) A colpitts oscillator is designed with C1 = 100 pf and C2 = 7500 pf. The inductance
is variable. Determine the range of inductance values, if the frequency of oscillation is to vary
between 950 KHz and 2050 KHz.

(6)

the amplifier is A and the feedback factor is , sketch the output waveforms for the three
cases (1) A > 1,

(2) A < 1 and

(3) A = 1. Derive the conditions of sustained

oscillations.
