M&A activities are once again rising from the ashes as animal spirits start to stir
again. The threat of rising interest rates has added a lot more urgency for
dealmakers and CIOs to complete strategic acquisitions. But the threat of higher
rates cannot solely be held responsible. The strengthening USD, a solid recover of
the US economy, and signs that Europe is emerging from its turmoil have given
CEOs the confidence they need for deals to take place. These unique
circumstances make for an intriguing platform for discussion. Are we witnessing
the rise of a new 6th wave of consolidation? Which industry will take the lead, and
in what form? How has the M&A industry done for the past 5 years, and how will it
take shape in the next 5 years to come?

The Asian growth story is one that has been told and retold in a million different ways over the
past two decades. And the story continues China is under the helm of a new leadership
seeking to foster its domestic consumer market, Hong Kong tries to find a new niche as it loses
its edge as a gateway to China, Indias potentials seem to remain unrealised, Japan seeks a
way out through Abenomics, and Myanmar Vietnam and Indonesia re-emerge to the forefront
of investors imaginations as it tries to fight the demons of its past. It is undeniable that these
stories are accented by heavy government involvements in search of continuing growth paths.
While economic dominance is not an explicit aim, the regions influence cannot be ignored.
With such variant cultural and social perspectives between and within the region itself,
Taming the Asian Tiger often eludes us. All these make for a dynamic backdrop for the City
to consider its position in anything from metals exchange to private equity.
