makeperfectlystraightcuts.Makesurethatanylumberthatcomesincontactwiththegroundisratedas
such.Allfastenersusedintheprojectmustbegalvanizedtoresistrust.
Day1:TheFloor
Step1:SitePreparation
Selectasitethatisfairlylevelandhasgood
drainage.Usingatapemeasureandaframing
square,measurean8'x8'square.Checkthat
yoursiteisperfectlysquarebymeasuringthe
diagonals.Iftheyeachmeasure11'6",your
siteisaperfect8'square.
Step2:OuterFrame
Usetwo8'lengthsof2"x6"lumberratedforoutdooruseforthefrontandrearrimjoists.Fromtwomore8'
lengthsof2"x6"lumberratedforoutdooruse,cuttwopiecesof2"x6"x7'6"forthesiderimjoists.
Assembletheouterframebynailingthroughthefrontandrearrimjoistsintothesiderimjoists,usingtwo12d

Measurethegapsbetweentheinnerfloorjoistsandcutlengthsof2"x6"lumberratedforoutdoorusetofit
betweeneachpairofjoists.Nailtheblocksintoplacenearthemiddleofthefloorjoists.Everysecondblock
shouldbeoffsetslightlytofacilitatenailing.
Step5:PlywoodFloor
Setone4'x8'sheetof3/4"CDXplywood(exteriorrated)ontheframe,withoneedgeofthesheetflushwith
therearrimjoist.Usetheplywoodasaguidetosquareupyourframe.Thefrontedgeoftheplywoodsheet
shouldfallexactlyatthecenterofthefloorjoistthatwassecuredat48"oncenter.Fastentheplywoodtothe
joistswith15/8"#6coateddeckscrewsat8"intervalsaroundtheperimeterandat12"intervalsinthecenter
oftheplywood.Markandcutthesecondsheetof3/4"CDXplywoodinhalflengthwise.Putonehalfasidefor
lateruseasthedoor.Settheotherhalfonthefloorjoistsnexttothefullplywoodsheet,leavinga1/16"gap

at6"intervalsaroundtheperimeterandat12"intervalsinthecentersofthesheets.
Securetherightroofdeckingboardsinthesameway.Tosecurethefrontrightboard,youwillneedtositon
thepeakoftheroof.
Step4:DripEdge
Cuttwo8'2"piecesofdripedge.Securethemtotheleftandrightedgesoftheroofdeckwith7/8"roofing

about18"apart.Rolloutandstapledownthenextcourseoffelt,alongthesecondchalkline,overlappingthe

Frominsidetheplayhouse,drill1/2"holes
throughthesheathinginthefourcornersofthe
rectangularwindowframes.Useaframing
squaretodrawlinesforeachwindowonthe
outersheathing,linkingthefourholesforeach
window.Cutoutthewindowrectangles.We
usedacordlesscircularsawtomakethecut.It
canalsobedonewithasabersaw.
Step2:InsertingWindows
Caulkliberallyalongtheinsideflangeofeachwindowandthensecureitinplaceaccordingtothe
manufacturer'sinstructions.
Step3:DoorOpening
Usingahandsaw,cutawaythebottomplateofthedoorwayframinginthefrontwall.Cutone2'pieceand
two5'piecesof1"x4"PonderosaPinefroma12'lengthforthetopandsidesofthedoorjamb.Using6d2"
finishingnails,jointhetoppiecetoeachofthe5'jambsides.Setthejambinthedooropeningandnailitin
placewith6d2"finishingnails.Althoughitispreferabletomakethedoorjamblevelandplumbforthesakeof
appearance,itisnotreallynecessarybecausethedoorwillmountoverthejamb,ratherthaninsideit.
Step4:Door
Cuta1'111/2"x4'111/2"doorfromtheremaininghalfsheetof3/4"CDXplywood.Securethedoorwith4"
galvanizedteehinges,mountedontherightsideofthejambontheoutsideoftheplayhouse.Thehinges

Step7:PaintthePlayhouse
Useatopqualityoutdoorlatexprimerandtopcoat.WechoseEnterpriseSevereWeatherbecauseithasa
warranteeof15years.Foraplayhousethatblendswiththeexteriorofyourhouse,choosecolorsthatare
compatiblewithyourhome'scolorscheme.Orhavefunandletyourchildrenselectacolorpalette.
