Fall Student Led Conferences take place next week. During this time, your student will share their SMART goals for the year
and share their dreams with their families and Advisory Teacher. Please contact the school immediately if you do not have a
conference scheduled. Also, make note that Monday Friday 9/21-9/25 are adjusted days with a release time of 1:04 pm.

The CAASPP
At the end of last year our students in grades 6-8 participated in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). As part of this
assessment system students were given a new assessment called the Smarter Balanced Assessment. This assessment is designed to measure student
knowledge of subject matter (English language arts and mathematics), critical thinking, analytical writing, and problem solving skills needed in order to be
prepared for and succeed in todays world .Like the new academic standards we are implementing, these new tests are too fundamentally different from the
tests students used to take to make any reliable comparisons between old scores and new. New textbooks and materials have only been in place in our
classrooms within the last few years. Thats why this years test results will only establish a baseline for the progress we expect students to make over time.
Lastly, we expect parent copies of student scores to be delivered to us from the state within the next few weeks. Once they are received we will work quickly to
get these distributed and out to parents. We also suggest that you not be discouraged by scores. They will not be used to make decisions about whether or not
a student moves on to the next grade. Rather, the results will provide an opportunity to focus on the needs of students and to inform/support teachers and
schools in their work.
