the walk ended, we took a group picture

helping hands, everyone got back safely.

After the questions in the gym,

WALK TO SCHOOL
DAY
Every year, in the fall and
spring, Rockport Elementary
participates in the National Walk to
School Day. This year on October 7th,
students walked from the courthouse
down to the elementary school. Fifth
graders walked in front with a banner,

thanks to the parents, teachers and the

police officers who took their time to help.
Everyone is looking forward to the spring
event in May!

PRINCIPALS CORNER
Its hard to believe that a quarter of the school year has already passed and
we are rapidly approaching Thanksgiving Break. I really enjoy Thanksgiving
and the weather that this season brings! I want to thank you for everything
you have done to help us this month and so far this year. Your support and
dedication is vital to our success and it is highly regarded and cherished!
Today we held our second PBIS assembly celebrating the academic and
behavioral accomplishments. Our students have worked hard and they are
making significant growth. Rockport Staff has shown their dedication with the
changes we have implemented to foster collaboration between teacher and
provide students with a dedicated intervention time. Staff has also began
participating in a health challenge that will hopefully get everyone in tip top
shape just in time for the holiday eats. It is my wish that this break will
provide you and your children the opportunity to rest, relax, and recharge. I
encourage you to spend time with family and enjoy the
wonderful fall weather. Although I am grateful
for Thanksgiving Break, I am equally as eager

opportunity to educate your child! We value you @Principal_Meyer
and the honor you have bestowed upon us!

RED RIBBON WEEK

Last week we had Red
Ribbon Week at Rockport
Ohio Elementary. It was
excellent! Monday was
Decade Day! We had sock
hop girls, hippies, and
pink ladies. It was so neat
to see so many different
costumes. I think these
special days are very
influential on kids. These
students are learning
about the past which will
be very handy in the
future. T uesday was
Career Day! There were
about 50 nurses, doctors,
and surgeons! There were
also many Army, Navy,
Coast Guard, Marines, and

Some kids like to come

Personally I think we
learn a lot about ourselves
when we think about who
we want to be. Wednesday
was Pajama Day! There
were superhero, cupcake,
and animal print pajamas.
I think pajamas express
who we are because most
people put time and effort
in finding something right
for them. Thursday was
Spirit Day! People were
wearing blue and white
paint, tutus, and Rebel
shirts. My teacher, Mrs.
Kenney was wearing
Rebel man pajamas. I
think it is very important
to have school spirit and
show your colors! Friday
was Superhero Day!
which works better for
your child and the
family schedule then
choose the routine that
makes the most sense
for you and your child.
Staying motivated is
another challenge.

There
were
Wonderwomen,
Superman, & someone
even dressed up like
their dad. Everyone
knows
some
superheroes dont wear
a mask. Now you know
about Rockport
Elementarys Red
Ribbon week.

Kids sometimes get

restless
doing
homework. Try
changing locations. Let
them do reading at the
kitchen table and then
science on the porch
and math on the couch.

At Rockport, our
school community has
a commitment to:
Increased academic

achievement
Developing positive
relationships by practicing
mutual respect
Celebrating the diversity of

Providing a safe

child, each day, is a
success!

Family
Literacy Night
Family Literacy night was a way to make dreary meetings more fun. In order to
receive funding from the government to provide classroom assistants we are
required to offer informational meetings. These have often taken the form of a
power point for parents. These year with the help from the dedicated staff at
Rockport we were able to provide a fun experience for students while also getting
the message out to parents. Thank you to all for participating.

MS. DONOHO'S RECAP

Lots of fun was had by all at
Family Literacy Night!
We
rolled out the red carpet for an
evening full of literacy activities.
One of the highlights of the
evening was all the
oppor tunities to win FREE
BOOKS!!!!! Thanks to the
Spencer County Public Library
we were able to have hundreds
of books for the children to
choose from. No one went home
empty handed!
Another
highlight of the evening was the
book exchange. Students
brought in over 250 books which
allowed books to be exchanged
and home libraries to be

freshened up. What a great way

to boost your child's love and
interest in books! Title I and
IREAD-3 meetings took place
and important reading tips were
shared with all. Literacy games
were played and read alouds
were enjoyed while snacking on
popcorn. Thanks to the
Rockport Elementary PTO the
evening ended with drawings for
door prizes. Thanks to all who

participated and we look

forward to seeing you at
future events!

Help and
information is
always available

If you were not able to attend the

meetings or missed picking up the
information feel free to call or email a
staff member and we will get you any
information you need.

READY, SET, PRETEND!

Ask your child to close their eyes and
imagine they are a person they have
studied (explorer, inventor)
or that they are visiting a
place they ahh learned about
(White House, forest).
Encourage them to describe
what they see, hear, and
smell. In the forest, for example, they
might see colorful birds, hear monkeys
howling, and smell damp leaves.
Pick a random object(sponge). Have
each family member lists creative uses
for it (pincushion, hamster, tumbling
mat, ice pack.) After three minutes,
compare your lists. The person with the
most ideas gets to pick the next item.

participating in the celebration of the 50
Year anniversary. I cant wait to see everyone at our exciting
upcoming events including Veterans Day and Winterfest. As always if you
want to get more involved come to a PTO meeting or stop in to provide us with
feedback.
