Reflection
Reflection
Do you have the courage to look at yourself in the mirror?
Considering your own behavior and understanding why you do things
in a certain way is called reflection. It is an important aspect to be
aware of to optimize collaboration. Why are you always the one
talking during a meeting? Why do you always wait to see what the
rest is going to do before taking any action of your own? By
considering your own behavior, you can make a plan to improve your
personal skills. This will allow you to better collaborate in a group.
In this document four questions are asked that guide your reflection.
Each question is followed by an information box. This box provides
information to help you answer a given question.
Question 1: What happened?
The idea is to think of two situations in which you were
collaborating with a group and something happened that was
disappointing, encouraging, or did no go according to plan. One
situation has to be related to the role you play in the group (chair,
secretary or writer), while the other must be related to how you function as a member of a group.
These have to be concrete situations. Try to answer the question as clearly as possible; describe
the situation as specifically as you can, using the information box.
Reviewing
There are always three components that play a role in a situation. These
components are thoughts, feelings, and behavior. In each situation you
experience, you feel things, think things and behave in a certain way.
When you review a situation, it is important to consider the three
components. Try to answer the following questions when you consider
What happened?:
What were you thinking?
What did you do?
How did you feel?
Situation 1 (Role in group):
