PROPS

1) Costumes old traditional malay costumes ; baju kurung, batik. White baju
kurung (cloth) for the Pontianak), hair extensions if needed. Baju melayu for
bomoh.
2) Stage props - Kampung house setting - hall, garden,

SCENE 1 *starts off with flickering of lights. Lady screams! Pontianak multi-rolling one will be
one stage.. one will be at the balcony. Movement of moonlight simultaneous with
Pontianak. *LIGHTS OFF*
*Drama Starts*
PONTIANAK: *Sits on the chair and sings to her baby* Rock a-bye baby on the tree top.
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock. When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall, And
down will fall baby, cradle and all. I cant wait for you to come into this world, darling.
*while touching the toy*
HUSBAND: *Walks in being drunk*
PONTIANAK: Hi dear. Where have you been? It was getting late and I was worried about
you.
HUSBAND: I had work to be completed at the office.

PONTIANAK: But I thought you should finish by 5. You promised me you would take me
to our doctor for our babys weekly check-up?
HUSBAND: *Annoyed and angry* SALMA, I TOLD I HAD WORK! You should have just
taken a taxi for your appointment. Leave me alone! Why do you constantly have to bug me
with your never-ending demands? This is insane. All I wanted was a space for my own, but
you..YOU NEVER SEEM TO COMPREHEND! *Dashes Out but was halted*
PONTIANAK: *At the brink of breaking down* Wait. Ho..how could you say such a
thing? This is our baby and its our gift of life. We were supposed to be in this together. But
you dont seem to care anymore. You constantly try to avoid us. Why? What is happening,
dear? What is happening to us?
HUSBAND: It was never my idea to have a baby. It was always you. You were so selfish,
and every decision taken was to favour your needs and desires. I want to live my life now. I
have been constantly held back from doing things I love. You never understood me. You
know, sometimes I ask myself, how on earth we actually got married to each other? *Dashes
out*
PONTIANAK: *Sobbing* (Monologue) He was a loving and responsible husband. He
was everything I could ever asked for. He showered me with so much love that the only place
I always wanted to be, was in his arms. I felt so blessed for the simple yet happy life. But
everything has changed when he started indulging into alcoholism. We started spending less
time together, we hardly speak to each other. All he does is.
HUSBAND: Salma, where is the money that you kept in the drawer? I need the money now, I
cant find it. WHERE IS IT SALMA?
PONTIANAK: I need that money, Rahman. It is for our babys doctor appointment. I cannot
let you have it. You will just end up buying alcohol and getting drunk.
HUSBAND: *rage* SALMA, HAND ME THE MONEY NOW.
PONTIANAK: No, I will never let you have it. I need it more than you do.
HUSBAND: Arghhhhhhh..*Goes crazy* *The knife on the table catches his eye, picks it
up and stabs his wife*
PONTIANAK: *starts bleeding*. I loved you so much. I dont deserve this. The day shall
come. II will hunt you down. You shall not die a peaceful death.
*Husband realises what he has done. Starts crying, but it was already too late.* Make it
very emotional*

SCENE 2 - REVENGE IS A DISH BEST SERVED COLD

*After 5 years* Rahman turns over a new leaf. He got married to a beautiful lady whos
currently expecting a child*
S.WIFE: So how was your day honey?
HUSBAND: It was a long, tiring day. I simply couldnt wait to come home to you. Hows our
little one doing?
S.WIFE: I felt him kick for the first time today.
HUSBAND: Aww darling. Wait a minute dear, I will be right back.
S.WIFE: *Sees a figure luring around the banana tree* Abang, its getting late. You can
pluck the bananas tomorrow morning dear. I know I always pester you to get them, but its
okay. You dont have to do it now.
HUSBAND: *comes out from the kitchen with a cup of tea* Sayang, you called me? Here,
I made you some tea.
S.WIFE: But.. but.. I thought I saw.. Never mind dear. I am feeling a little tired. I will just
put out the clothes for drying before I head to bed.
HUSBAND: Okay sayang. You know, I think I will put out the clothes for you. Dont worry.
You go get some rest. You look very tired.
S.WIFE: Thank you, dear. Youre the best husband anyone could ask for.
*Husband goes and hang the clothes outside* *A cold shiver ran down his spine and assumed
it was the wind*
(I loved you so much. I dont deserve this. The day shall come. II will hunt you down.
You shall not die a peaceful death.) Raspy chilly voice echoes
HUSBAND: *Felt uncomfortable and quickly went back into the house* That was creepy.
Well, I need to get all these reports done. Its going to be a long night. Well, what do we have
here? *looks through reports - working*
TUNE PLAYS - Rock a-bye baby on the tree top. When the wind blows, the cradle will
rock. When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall, And down will fall baby, cradle and all.
*LIGHTS FLICKERING*
SOUND EFFECTS - *WOMAN SCREAMS* - LIGHTS OFF! SPOT LIGHT SHINES
ON ME!

HUSBAND: Dear! Are you okay? Where are you?

*runs down the stage and make audience interaction*
*Projector shows the bloody wall* *PONTIANAK APPEARS BY THE SCREEN*
DISAPPEARS when husband walks up the stage*

HUSBAND: *Touches the bloody wall* It cannot be true. NOnooNooo.

SOUND EFFECT -*baby cries* *Broken plates*
HUSBAND: *Notices a trail of blood on the ground* - Follows the trail down the stage
onto the floor. Leads to the toy in the first scene!
*PONTIANAK APPEARS FROM THE STAGE*
PONTIANAK: *SINGS WHILE WALKING TOWARDS HUSBAND* Rock a-bye baby
on the tree top. When the wind blows, the cradle will rock. When the bough breaks, the cradle
will fall, And down will fall baby, cradle and all. DID YOU MISS ME DEAR?
SOUND EFFECTS Evil Laugh
HUSBAND: *Freaks Out and runs to the stage* *Falls and passes out*
LIGHTS OFF!

Scene 3 The Confession.

A: We need to do something. I cant eat. I cant sleep. I cant put our family in jeopardy.
B: *Trying to avoid conversation* *Thinking really hard on something*
A: She seemed so angry and filled with vengeance. *realised her husband was not
himself (filled with fear)*..Are you okay abang?
B: No..I mean yes I am okay. *Very guilty feeling. Cold Sweat*
A: Is there something you need to tell me?
B: No darling, its nothing. Well, actually theres something I need to tell you.
Something which happened a very long time ago. *Confession occurs*
A: *Shocked in disbelief*
B: Suggested that they call the famous bomoh for help

*bomoh does the ritual. Nailed a rusty nail on the Pontianaks neck. Tells them, if the
nail is removed, she will come back.
Everything becomes back to normal.
One fine night, husband was about to head to bed.

*Sound a nail falling to the ground* Must be loud

*Picks it up *..end the drama with the suspense.
