Introduction
As racism continues to remain a prevalent issue in America, the entertainment industry
also discriminates against many people of color. Major film studios and production
companies are mainly owned by white men, which is evidenced by the significant number of
high grossing, big block buster films that include a majority all-white cast and few roles for
African Americans. But the NAACP has challenged racial discrimination and bolstered
efforts to diversify mainstream media by giving voice and visibility to people of color. Thus,
the NAACPs movement has incited film companies to incorporate multiculturalism into the
entertainment industry. But although there have been some changes in the entertainment
industry, African Americans and Latinos are still underrepresented, which reflects the racial
climate of America.

I.

Thesis
Essentially, African Americans still have limited roles in the entertainment industry due
to perpetual racial discrimination in America, but the NAACP continues to advocate for
change and make efforts to recognize African American artists, which will help to open doors
for more people of color.

II.

Main Points
A. Historically, African Americans were denied entry into the entertainment industry, which
shows the lack of cultural diversity during the early era of entertainment.

B. Film companies are dominated by white men as evidenced by the high number of white
actors in big budget movies and award ceremonies such as the Academy Awards that
mainly glorify white artists and filmmakers.
C. The NACCP continues to push the movement to celebrate African American artists and
break down some of the racial barriers in the entertainment industry.
D. Social Psychology and Multicultural Psychology
1. The principles of Multicultural Psychology and Social Psychology.
2. Analysis of the social and multicultural psychological aspects of the problem.
3. Application of the principles of Social Psychology and Multicultural Psychology
in conflict plan.
4. Conflict resolution plan.
III.

Conclusion
Ultimately, film production companies spearheaded by white men maintain control of the
film industry. The industry continues to perpetuate racial discrimination and lacks cultural
diversity by denying roles to people of color. Thus, the NAACP continues to recognize
African Americans and push multiculturalism in mainstream media. But although there are
more roles for people of color today, they still remain highly underrepresented in the
entertainment industry.
