Self-regulation of Learning Outline

I.

Introduction: At some point everyone practices self-regulation whether they are aware
of it or not, such as being on a diet. Though people may practice self-regulation how
many people actually understand it. The process of self-regulation involves other
processes like affective learning, and internalization and it is reinforced by self
instruction, self reinforcement and self monitoring. This paper will is a description of
how to propose and to measure self-regulation within the field of forensic
psychology. In addition, a published animal researched, human, behaviorist, social
cognitive, information processing, and constructivist theory to help develop an
informative outline of research to measure self-regulation in one of the following
field of forensic psychology will be included.

forensic psychology.
A description of how to propose and measure self-regulation
A. Self-regulation also known as self-regulated learning refers to processes that
learners use to systematically focus their thoughts, feelings, and actions on the
attainment of their goals. (p.400). Self-regulation involves both cognitive and
and affective processes that contribute to motivation and engagement in behaviors
(Shunk, 2012). Additionally, self-regulation can be applied in general settings
such as goal setting and personal progress review across multiple environments,

or used specifically to narrow down a goal target such as learning a new skill that
is useful in a single environment.
B. Behaviorism perspective on self-regulation derives largely from the work of
Skinner. Researchers working within the framework of his operant conditioning
theory apply operant principles in diverse settings with adults and children. The
purpose is to reduce dysfunctional behaviors and replace them with more adaptive
behaviors.
C. Information processing evolved from their original formulations to incorporate
cognitive, and motivational self-regulatory processes. The information processing
model of self-regulation that includes these components, and discusses research
and applications on learning strategies a key feature of self-regulation from an
information processing perspective.
D. Constructivist researchers have addressed self-regulation, which seems natural
given that a central constructivist assumption is that learners construct knowledge
and ways for acquiring and applying it. There are various sources for
constructivist accounts of self-regulation, including cognitive-development
theories and Vygotsky theory. Constructivist views of self-regulation rest on
certain assumptions.
E. Social cognitive theory implies that learners have preconceived goals when
entering learning opportunities. (Shunk, 2012). The social cognitive perspective
also includes three processes: Self-observation, self-judgments as to whether or
not progress towards goals is adequate, and change behaviors as needed in an
effort to accomplish goals as expected. (Shunk,2012). Under the social cognitive
theory, individuals are in a constant state of self-assessment, judgment, and

reaction to perceived goal progress as they measure their own progress against
preconceived markers of success.
III.

The operational definitions, limitations, assumptions, hypothesis, and data analysis

plans
A. Limitations helps identifies potential weaknesses. The analysis, the nature of self
report, your instruments, the sample.
B. Hypothesis is tentative statement about the relationship between two or more
variables. A specific, testable prediction about what you expect to happen in your
study.
C. Data analysis plans part of extracting evidence in psychology for systematically
classify and determining the data of the behavior or its related variables being
calculated.
D. Operational definition shows the process such as a variable, term, or object in
terms of the specific process or set of validation tests used to determine its
presence and quantity.
E. Assumptions the premise or supposition that something is a fact therefore, this the
act of taking something for granted.

IV.

The deficiencies a critic might identify in your statement of limitations and

assumption
A. Limitations
i. A shortcoming of limitations is having to many weaknesses.
B. Assumption
i. A shortcoming of Assumption is taking for granted.
