How to use the BUS Monitor

PlusConfig

The BUS Monitor enables you to display all communication present on the Luxom network.
This tool allows poorly connected or incorrect programmed modules to be traced easily.
( Reference PlusConfig Version 3.2.29)

Where can I find the BUS Monitor?


Go to the menu bar and click on

or select Tools / BUS Monitor to access this monitor:

1: Log When ON, all viewed data will be stored in a text file on your hard disk with date and time
stamp. Go to: My Documents\LUXOM\BUS Monitor\Logs\BUSMonitor.log to view this data.
This text file is continuously updated!
: Log OFF

: Log ON

2: Translation mode When this mode is active, the software doesnt show the hex format but the
address names as they are included in the address list.
A new address will not be translated when this address has been created while the translation mode
was active. You have to turn the translation mode OFF and back ON to refresh.
3: Play Click on this icon to activate the BUS Monitor and to view the data on the network.
4: Stop If you wish to interrupt the display to study the data more closely, press this icon.
5: Clear Screen Click this icon to erase all content of the BUS Monitor window.
6: BUS Monitor window This window contains all transmitted / received data with time stamp.
7: BUS Command input field Allows the advanced programmer to type and send a BUS command.
hex mode has to be active!
8: Performance meter This bar graph shows the number of data frames/second on the network.

How can I set up the properties of the BUS Monitor?


To open the properties window, click with the right mouse button on the performance meter and select
Properties:

10 & 11 Message filters (only in hex format)


These filters allow you to display just the filtered data.
: Only data with
*S,0*
will be displayed.

The use of Wildcards * is allowed.


12 & 13 Performance meter
Allows you to set up the sample time and bar graph
resolution. Default : 70 frames / 1 second. (80% of the bus capacity)
14: Hex format : Show data in Hex Decimal format.

Hex = Default Setting

15: Heartbeat
This checkbox allows you to display the heartbeat between the computer and the Luxom ethernet
gateway on the BUS Monitor. The computer sends a request every 6 seconds to check if the gateway
is still present on the IP network. View on the BUS Monitor:
Tx: *U; [Request transmitted from the computer]
Rx: *U; [Request echo]
Rx: *V; [Acknowledge received from the Ethernet gateway]
