SETTING: IN A HALLWAY OUTSIDE PARENTS ROOM. DAYTIME.

Shot pans up to a boy around 17 or 18 banging his head

against the wall. Bickering is heard in the background.
Shot opens Wider to reveal boy sitting outside parents door
closed with now full on fighting going on behind the door in
the back ground. Boy just sitting there with a dead look on
his face.
Door opens. Cuts to close up on mothers face. She gasps and
covers her mouth. Shows reaction of boy. Boy gets up and
walks down the stairs.
SETTING: DOWNSTAIRS OF THE HOUSE.
Boy grabs his coat. Then grabs his keys and bursts out the
door in anger.
Cuts to him putting on his coat as he is walking out of the
house.
He opens the car door, sits, closes door. Puts the keys in
the ignition, but does not start it. He sits there silent
for a moment, lets out a gasp then screams. bangs his head
against the steering wheel, causing the horn to go for a few
moments. He looks up and notices in his mirror that someone
is walking their dog behind him. He waves in apology, then
starts the car.
He sits there driving in silence trying not to tear up. then
out of no where screams.
LUKE
GOD DAMMIT! (Screams) WHY?! FUCKING
WHY? WHY NOW?
SETTING: DANIELS PARK. OUTSIDE MIDDAY.
Luke gets out of his car. Cuts to a shot of him walking
toward the ledge. He sits down. Pulls out a pack of
cigarettes grabs one and lights it. Takes a few breaths.
LUKE
What the fuck am I doing?
Luke puts the cigarette out on the rock next to him. He
takes out his phone and opens it up. He types in a number
and dials holding the phone up to his face.
JULIE (ONE PHONE)

Whats up?
LUKE
I dont know. Nothing really. I
just didnt really know what to do,
or what I was doing so I called

(Silence)
LUKE
Actually no. Im not alright, Im a

(laughs slightly)
JULIE (ONE PHONE)

LUKE

LUKE

JULIE (ONE PHONE)

I dont know, kinda wanted to hang

Luke hangs up the phone. Puts it back in his pocket and sits
there for a second. Looks down at the put out cigarette.
LUKE
Ahh fuck it.
Takes out a cigarette and lights it. Sits there and takes a
few puffs. Camera lingers and slowly backs away.
SETTING: JULIAS HOUSE NIGHT TIME.
(Music Playing Over)
Luke pulls up in his car and gets out. Its raining so he
runs up to the door. Julia is there waiting for him, they
are laughing about the rain.
Cut to inside her house in the entryway. Luke takes off his
wet jacket and shakes it. Gives her a hug saying hello.
Cuts to them sitting at her kitchen table eating soup just
talking. Music is still playing over. Fades out slowly to
make the conversation more and more clear. Luke is spinning
the broth in his soup staring down at it.
LUKE
Soup really is the perfect rainy
day food isnt it?
JULIA
I figured if its going to happen I
might as well embrace it fully
stereotyped and all.
LUKE
Kinda like Steering into the skid I
suppose.
JULIA
Yeah I guess you could say that.
(They both giggle, and make eye contact. Luke Smiles)
Julia:

LUKE:

JULIA:
You know, the phone call, that was
weird, what was that all about.
LUKE:
Maybe I just needed an excuse to

JULIA:

JULIA:
So what is it this time?
LUKE:
I dont really know. Some bullshit
about money my dad spent while out
of town that was suggestive of
other things.
JULIA:

mother? Shes fucking terrifying.
JULIA:

LUKE:

They hold Eye contact for a while before Julia breaks it and
changes her energy for the negative immediately. Shot of
Luke reacting to such.
JULIA:
Well do you want to watch a movie?
LUKE:
Yeah, whats next on our list?
JULIA:
Well on yours its star wars
episode 5, on mine its mean girls,
and I believe its my turn.
LUKE:
(Begrudgingly) Okayy, Ill get
started on the popcorn.
Cut to shot of Julia watching the movie eating popcorn. Luke
is sitting there just watching her.
LUKE:
You know Im really glad I know
you.
JULIA:
Me too.
LUKE:
No, I mean it. Youre amazing. I
was having a horrid day, its
raining, and I come see you and now
its one of the best days Ive ever
had.
JULIA:
Well youre pretty great too you

JULIA:

They make eye contact and move in towards each other. They
get close and are just about to kiss when Julia breaks away.
She stands up and walks away then turns to Luke still
sitting.
JULIA:
We cant do this. You know we cant

LUKE:
Why? Why cant we do this?
JULIA:
You know very well why. I have a
boyfriend. Im in a relationship.
No where in that world is this
okay.
LUKE:
So were just going to keep fucking
ignoring this?
JULIA:
I think you should go.
LUKE:
Maybe I should.
Luke storms out and grabs his jacket from her front entry
and goes outside. Julia is in her bare feet, follows him
out.
JULIA:

LUKE:
For what? Its not going to change.
It never does.
JULIA:
I dont know. I just didnt expect
you to agree so easily.
LUKE:
What am I supposed to do? You asked

Luke begins to walk away. Julia yells out at him.

drag this out when the ending is
written in stone. I dont think we

JULIA:

LUKE:

JULIA:

Julia walks back into her house. Luke just stands there
watching, at this point emotionless. The door closes and
Luke just stands there for a moment, and walk to his car.
Before he gets in he turns back and looks at the house.
LUKE:
Bye Jules. I love you.
Cuts to the door closing on the car.

SETTING: LUKES ROOM NIGHT TIME.

Pans down to Luke sitting against his window. He rubs his
hands against his face and then through his hair. He puts
them down and sighs, putting his head against the surface f
the glass. It reveals that he has been crying. He turns
across himself and turns the only light on in his room off.
Cut to black.
SETTING: BASEMENT DURING PARTY. NIGHTTIME.
Varying shots showing a fast paced party environment. People
playing beer pong, a ball ringing into a cup. Several people
taking shots. People Pouring Drinks. Standing talking Etc.
Shot of Luke pouring a drink and taking a shot very quickly.
JAMES:
Woah, slow down there man. Youre
already 5 or 6 in and its not even
10 yet.
LUKE:
Dude Im fine. Honestly.
JAMES:
Why dont you go drink some water.
LUKE:
Okay, Ill drink some water but
honestly dude, Im fine.
JAMES:
Alright, Im just trying to help
bro.
LUKE:
I know, I know. Im sorry.
JAMES:
Its alright. Now why dont you go
get some water.
LUKE:
Alright.
Luke walks over to the sink and fills his now empty red solo
cup with some water. He begins to drink it. His phone
buzzes. He puts his drink down and takes out his phone, He
has a new message, he unlocks his phone and opens up the
message. It is from Julia. It reads "Jason Cheated on me".
Luke has a dead look on his face.

He puts his phone back into his pocket and then leaves the
room.
Cuts to shot of him walking out onto the back porch. He
takes a big breath and sighs. He leans on the railing, then
takes his phone out. He opens the message back up, and
starts to type a reply. He deletes it and begins to type
again. This happens a few times, and Luke begins to become
increasingly agitated.
He eventually locks his phone, and then smashes it down on
the railing. He then picks it up and throws it off the
balcony as hard as he can.
LUKE:
FUCK YOU. FUCK. YOU.
Luke is screaming into the distance off of the railing, and
you can see James looking at his through the back door.
James steps outside, and waits for Luke to realize hes
there. Luke turns around.
JAMES:
You alright there bud?
LUKE:
Yeah. No. I dont know.
Luke turns back around leans on the railing. James walks up
beside him and offers him a beer. Luke takes it and takes a
sip.
JAMES:
Whats up?
LUKE:
Jason cheated on Julia.
JAMES:
Shit. What an asshole.
LUKE:
Youre telling me.
JAMES:
What happened?
LUKE:
I dont know. She just texted me.
Thats all she said. "Jason cheated
on me".

LUKE:
I didnt. I didnt know what to
reply, so I Just got mad and threw
my phone off the porch.
JAMES:

LUKE:
In retrospect it doesnt.
JAMES:
You think?
(They Chuckle)
JAMES:
You think theyll break up.
LUKE:
No. Knowing here, shell freak out
and theyll break up for a few days
and then itll be like nothing
happened. And hell continue to get
away with being an asshole for the
rest of his life.
JAMES:
You ok?
LUKE:
No. But I think I will be. I just
dont get it you know? Shes
perfect and so wonderful, and yet
shes with this asshole, who is a
loser, and doesnt treat her right.
You think shed realize she could
do so much better. And Im not even
talking about me. Yeah, thatd be

I care about her, and it kills me
to watch he go through this
destructive pattern, where there is
no good outcome. There is nothing I
can do about it at this point,
and I need my sanity back man.
JAMES:
Well its good to have you back. We
were worried about you. Youll be
alright, I know you will. You

LUKE:

SETTING:INT. HOUSE LUKES BEDROOM
Luke is sitting on his bed on his computer seemingly working
on something. There is a knock on the door.
LUKE:
Come in.
Lukes mom opens the door and steps in the crack.
MOTHER:
Hey when you have a sec Me and your
Father would like to talk to you.
LUKE:
Yeah, course. Let me just finish
this assignment up. Ill be down in
a few minutes

Okay well be in the kitchen.
Lukes mom closes the door.
Cuts to a shot of luke walking into the kitchen. His parent
are sitting at one side of the table. He walks in and sits
down across from them. There is a noticeable tension in the
rom, Luke tentatively sits down.
LUKE:
Hi.
MOTHER:
Hi! Me and your father wanted to
talk to you, uhh. How do we say
this?
There is a noticeable silence for a while. Lukes mom
chuckles awkwardly, almost bursting into tears.
MOTHER:
Wow, there really is no easy way to
say this, I uhh.
FATHER:
(Cutting in very sternly)
Your Mother and I are getting a
divorce.
Luke sits there blankly in shock for a second, and then
looks down avoiding eye contact. There is a silence for a
considerable amount of time.
MOTHER:
Well, dont you have anything to
say?
LUKE:
Well, what is there for me to say?
MOTHER:
I, I dont know.
LUKE:
What do you want me to say?
There is silence.
LUKE:
Im going to go back to my room.

Luke gets up and leaves. Father sighs heavily and

noticeably.
Luke walks down the stairs, and stops before he goes up. He
takes a second to consider, and try to acknowledge what just
happened. He rubs his eyes and sighs, fighting off tears.
Luke walks into his room and lays down on his bed grabbing
his pillow just hugging it.
(Cut to black)
SETTING: JAMES CAR. 1 WEEK LATER.
Nick gets into James car and then James takes the car out
of park and pulls away.
NICK:
Hey bro, whats up?
JAMES:
Not much, hows it been?
NICK:
Good good, yourself?
JAMES:
Im doing pretty alright myself.
NICK:
Well thats good. So did you hear
about Luke?
JAMES:
No, why?
NICK:
His parents are getting a divorce.
JAMES:
Oh shit. No way?
NICK:
Yeah.
JAMES:
And that whole thing with Julia
just happened. I cant believe
that.
NICK:
Yeah, certainly going through a
lot, thats for sure.

So I got a call from your coach, he
said you havent been showing up to

Lukes mother tries to speak but nothing comes out, she

looks down and shakes her head.

MOTHER:

understand.
LUKE:

Your marriage... Your relationship.

Im going to go on this camping
trip with my friends this weekend
and its going to be a ton of fun,

Luke walks out the door and grabs his duffel from the front
entry. There is a shot of the door closing and cut to black.

SETTING: EXT. NIGHT TIME AROUND A CAMPFIRE.

Luke walks up to the camp fire and stumbles a little bit.
LUKE:
Heyyyyy.
JAMES:
Luke, are you drunk?
LUKE:
No, Im good
Luke trips and falls, very obviously intoxicated. James
rushes over to help him, but luke gets up very quickly.
JAMES:
Dude, why are you drunk? And where
did you even get alcohol? Thats
not what this trip is about.
LUKE:
What the hell does it matter to you
whether I drink or not.
JAMES:
Luke, are you okay?
LUKE:
Yeah, Im fucking fine.
JAMES:
No really. Are you okay? Im really
worried about you man.
LUKE:

figure a way to work it out, thats

SETTING: EXT. NEXT TO A LAKE. MORNING
Luke is sitting by a lake throwing pebbles into it, and
trying to skip rocks. James walks p with two cups of coffee
in his hands. He sits down next to Luke and offers his a
cup. Luke takes it and takes a big sip. Letting out a sigh
afterwards.
JAMES:
How you feeling this morning bud?
LUKE:
Good for the most part. A little
headache but not bad.

LUKE:

JAMES:

man. I was really drunk and I

JAMES:

LUKE:

like my whole life is falling
apart, and there is nothing I can

JAMES:

LUKE:
I need someone to help. I cant get

Luke walks up to a check in table.

Hi Im Luke Olsson, and Im here to
see Dr. Nelson.
RECEPTIONIST:
Fill out this form real quick, and
someone will be out to get you in
just a moment.
Luke takes the form and sits down. Cuts to shot of him
flipping through a magazine in the waiting room. A nurse
walks through the door and calls his name.
Luke walks back with her and into an office, he sits down
across a table from a man.
DR. NELSON:
Hi, you must be luke. What can I do
for you today?
LUKE:
I uhhh. I need some help.
