DRILLING DIVISION CAREER LADDER

Role Description
Drilling Engineer - Level 2
Purpose and Scope
Participates in all drilling and workover engineering duties related to assigned rigs. Includes
initiating drilling and workover programs, EP-1, surface and down-hole equipment requirements
Directs contractors involved in logging operations according to approved program requirements and
revises directional and/or sidetracking surveys to establish drilling routes. Participates in completion
design and directs running completion on site. Participates in technical studies aimed at
optimization of drilling and workover operations. Monitors work progress and prepare final drilling
and workover reports. Monitors trends in the performance of the drilling contractor and service
companies & highlights efficiency problems.
Accountabilities

Key Performance Indicators

Initiates detailed programs for drilling/workover


rigs covering drilling, testing, workover and
completion programs. This includes preparing
well data sheets, directional plots, well charts
(such as hole size, bit size, casing size, etc).

Timely issued programs.


IRs for materials are issued on time.
Timely issued EP-1s
Offset wells are taken into account.

Performs pre spud meetings, AAR and field


duties such as supervising contractors work on
open hole and cased hole logging, casing
programs, perforation, running completions,
stimulation, flow testing, sampling and pressure
surveys.

Visit/activity reports

Carries out first look analysis on site on field


activities to ensure operations are proceeding
satisfactory.
Identifies
and
recommends
remedial action if necessary.

Accuracy of analysis and acceptance of


the same by other users in PDD and/or
operations
Promptness in identifying anomalous data
and recommendation of corrective action.

Reviews daily directional and/or side tracking


surveys.
Checks
surveys
to
determine
directional departure readings and plots route of
the drilled wellhole. Advises Drilling Supervisor
of new drilling course and corrective actions to
be taken.

Timely plotting of actual trajectory.


Early identification of directional control.

Monitors daily progress of current wells and


actual daily costs, compares actual costs with
EP-1s and recommends any changes or
improvements to rig work techniques which
could lead to optimization of expenditure.

Timely plotting of progress chart.


Daily follow up and effective
monitoring.

Carries out full Engineering analysis of the data


obtained from rig site and prepares the well
report detailing final evaluation of performed
operations.

After action review of each wells.

Participates in optimization studies on tools,


equipment and operations as instructed.
Includes bit record, nozzle sizes, drilling speed,
bit condition, etc. Determine the most
economical methods, tools and equipment to be
used and advises drilling supervisors on site,
accordingly.

Checks contractors invoices, allocates job


numbers & recommends invoices for
approval.

prepares morning summary report. Prepares
monthly reports on wells history and
technical activities.

Timely hand over reports.

Keeps abreast of technological development


in the field of drilling engineering in the oil/
production industry and recommends their
adoption by ADCO.

Attends conferences, seminars, reviews


technical periodicals.
Draws on the experience of other oil
companies.
Awareness of latest drilling/logging/testing
technologies.

Participates in the training and development


of assigned UAE national employees.
Administer on the job training/familiarization
programs and reports on progress.

Knows the Company health, safety and


environmental
policy,
procedures,
regulations and objectives as they relate to
his area of responsibility, and ensures that
they are effectively implemented in his
domain.

O-J-T programs are developed for new


employees.
Timely and accurate reporting on progress.

Minimum Requirements
knowledge

Experience

B.Sc. in Petroleum Engineering, plus relevant


courses
in
Drilling/Completion/Directional
Drilling and Blow Out prevention methods.

years'
drilling/workover
engineering
experience with specific emphasis on drilling
technology and blow out prevention techniques
and methods.
