INDUSTRIAL TRAINING GUIDELINE

DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTANCY (DIA)


Background
Industrial Training is very important component to expose students with real
work life situation and to equip the students with necessary skills so that
they will be job ready when they graduate. Students may realize their
ambition and ascertain their career path from the experience gained during
Industrial Training. The attachment provides students with the opportunity to
meet and network with people in the industry, and the industry has the
opportunity to identify talents and potential skilled workers.
Learning outcomes
LO1: Demonstrate knowledge competency in relation to the scope of work in
the organization. (C3, PLO2)
LO2: Solve the real work problems and practice the technical knowledge in
solving them. (C3, PLO3)

SECTION A: Students Guideline
1.0

Procedures applying for industrial training


A briefing on Industrial Training will be conducted by Industrial Linkage
Department. It is compulsory for the students to attend. Students need
to fill in Application Form for Industrial Training (Borang
Pengesahan Praktikum) and get approval from Dean or Head of
Department. Students should identify prospective organizations for
Industrial Training.

2.0

Rules and regulation


Before a student is allowed to go for industrial training, academically
he/she must be in good standing (i.e. has obtained a CGPA of at least
2.00), and have completed the prerequisite courses according to the
program of study.

3.0

Duration
The training duration is 14 weeks.

4.0

Industrial Training Placement


Students should find a suitable organization for placement. Students
are encouraged to apply for placement in an organization related to
their respective field of academic study. Accounting students should
require undergoing industrial training only in firms and organizations
related to accountancy. For example: accounting firm, audit and
taxation firm, secretarial company etc. Students should discuss with
dean or head of department in selecting a suitable places for industrial
training.
Students are required to submit the necessary documents to
organizations such as resume, the results and etc. If organizations
agree to receive industrial training students, the organization should fill
up Borang Lampiran Jawapan as confirmation of their acceptance.

5.0

Job scope
Students should discuss with the organization in relation to the job
scope of a Diploma in Accountancy. Hopefully, the organizations could
allocate duties/task to students based on the job scope.

Industrial Training Report Writing Guideline


Purpose:
a. The guidelines serve as giving the basic for writing neat and good
reports.
b. The entire guidelines aim to guide the students in preparing a more
distinctive report to achieve one of the objectives of the training.
Industrial Training Final Report Submission
Student should submit the industrial training report TWO (2) weeks
after the industrial training is completed.
Students should make use of the training opportunity to learn in an
active manner, for example to raise questions to their industrial
supervisors on technical matters that they do not understand. They
need to be proactive in taking up duties rather than passively waiting
for the job assignments
The practical training report must be written with the following
characteristics:
1. Language: English
2. Font: Times New Roman, Size: 12
3. Margins: Header & Footer 0.5" from edge, Top and Bottom 1.0" , Left
1.30" & Right 1.20"
4. Header: Organization's name (left indent)
5. Line spacing: 1.5

6. Page number: bottom of page (center)


7. Print all pages on a single-sided, A4 paper (approx. 50 pages)
8. Binding hardcover

PRESENTATION INDUSTRIAL TRAINING GUIDELINE


Students should present their industrial training after TWO (2) weeks
completed the industrial training. Students may use presentation aid
such as power points presentation in 15-20 minutes and with 15 slides.

SECTION B: SUPERVISOR GUIDELINE


1. Task of Supervisor
The industrial training Supervisor must be an academic staff of ICYM
employed permanently or on a contract basis and must be formally
appointed by the Dean/ Head of Department to carry out the supervision of
students for a specific duration as stated in the letter of appointment.
The tasks of a Supervisor are as follows:
i. Plan supervision visit to the organization.
ii. Evaluate the trainees,
iii.
Communicate with the supervisor at the organization on the progress
and the performance of the trainees
iv. Ensure that all evaluation marking tasks are completed.
v. Provide feedback on the industrial training supervision.
2. Forms
Industrial training supervisor must fulfill following forms:
a. Colleges Supervisor Report form
b. Report Log Book Evaluation form
c. Borang Pengesahan Penyeliaan latihan Industri (JHI-005)

SECTION C: COMPANY GUIDELINE


1. Company Supervisor
The company must appoint a supervisor for each student. The name,
designation, telephone and the email of the supervisor must be given to
ICYM for further communication. ICYM will appoint a lecturer supervisor who
will liaise with the company supervisor on all matters pertaining to the
training. The duty of the supervisor is to monitor, guide and assess the
progress of the students under their supervision.
Company Supervisor must fulfill the Supervisor Industrial Report form
2. Training activities
The students should be given proper task to perform in their training rather
than give clerical and maintenance jobs. It is suggested that the students be
given tasks that will enhance their knowledge and skills in marketing. In
addition, the students should be encouraged to participate in the
management of the company. These exposures add values to their
experience working as trainees. We expect the company to provide sufficient
resources for the student to complete the given tasks. Please inform the
ICYM in the event of any shortcomings that may hinder the student from
completing their tasks. Any issues on the performance and discipline of the
student must be brought to the attention of the ICYM.
Reports
i. The students will prepare a Log Book to document their activities for
the week. The document must be done daily and must be verified by
the company supervisor weekly.
ii.
The students need to prepare a Progress Report and submit to the
academic supervisor for acknowledgement .Progress report is a biweekly basis.
iii.
Students need to submit the Final Report to the company supervisor
for approval. The company may request the student to remove any
confidential items in the report (if any).
