Celebrity feminism is a new trend. A few celebrities , such as Beyonc or Lena Dunham, declare themselves
feminists and encourage people to spread feminist ideas / sensitise their fans to womens issues.
Explain what the journalist thinks of it.

The journalist is in favour of celebrity feminism as it influences people positively, it helps people change their
minds. / think differently . Being celebrities, they are viewed as role models and their personal commitment to
feminism may effect change . People may want to emulate their idols and spread the word./ get involved in
the fight.

I agree with her when she says that being a feminist is not being anti-male. People think so because feminists
used to be violent . People still keep in mind the image of them burning their bras.I couldnt agree more.
Representations have changed. Being a feminist is striving for equality. Women dont feel inferior or superior
to men. They just want to be treated on an equal footing.
Do you consider feminism a trend or a necessity?

To me, Feminism is not a trend. The fact that several celebrities speak up for womens rights is necessary to
change peoples attitude. More and more people speak about feminism because they are aware that the
situation is not that fair. Nowadays, feminists are trying to achieve Equal pay, contraception and abortion, to
stop job discrimination . For instance, a study said that in 2013, in the USA, among full-time, year-round
workers, women were paid 78 percent of what men were paid. I believe that Feminism is needed to denounce
this injustice.
