o CIMT 611 ² Measurement and Evaluation in Education -‐ Planning
and construction of educational tests and use of standardized tests.
Exemplary topics include the role of measurement and evaluation,
writing selection and supply items, observation, measurement,
published tests, and test appraisal.
o CIMT 603 ² Instructional Strategies for Secondary School Emphasis
on skill development in basic teaching and content literacy
strategies. Includes integration of national and state standards into
planning to teach diverse learners, interdisciplinary curriculum and
instruction, cooperative and individualized instruction, and
integration of instructional technology, performance assessment,
and management of the learning environment. Field experiences
integrated with pedagogical knowledge of teaching.
o CIMT 899 ² Dissertation Chairperson (Fall 2009 ² present)
o CIMT 610 ² Research in Education ² Instruction in the skills,
knowledge, and competencies needed to plan and understand
research. Exemplary topics include library use, scientific
methodology, observation, measurement, selection of a question,
design, data collection, analysis of data, and generalization from data
(Summer 2009, Fall 2009).
o CIMT 885 ² Practicum in College Teaching ² Designed to provide
doctoral students with experience in teaching at the college level.
The student taking this course is assigned to a professor who
supervises his/her teaching of an appropriate course. The course
taught by the student may be in any department in which he or she
has been judged to be competent for such teaching. Students will
also be required to participate in a two-‐hour seminar session each
week, which will be devoted to analysis of problems encountered in
their teaching.
o CIMT301 ² Teaching I -‐ Introduction to subject-‐-‐matter teaching in
reformed middle and high schools; philosophy, organization, and
curriculum of reformed middle and high schools; the role of the
teacher as instructional leader and as a collaborator with colleagues;
teacher responsibilities as a professional education; includes an
observation practicum in local middle and high schools. (Fall 2007,
Spring 2008, Fall 2008, Spring 2009)
o CIMT302 ² Teaching II -‐General methods of teaching. Emphasis on
skill development in basic teaching and content area literacy
strategies. Includes integration of national and state standards into
planning to teach diverse learners, interdisciplinary curriculum and
instruction, cooperative and individualized instruction, integration
of instructional technology, performance assessment, and

interpersonal consequences of decisions by both the teacher and the

o CIMT602 ² Curriculum and Philosophy of Middle Schools -‐
Philosophy and organization of the curriculum of reformed middle
and high schools; the teacher as instructional leader; the teacher as
collaborator; and teacher responsibilities as a professional educator.

o CIMT 660 ² Curriculum Fundamentals -‐ An introductory course in
curriculum which includes the foundations and meaning of
curriculum, principles and patterns of curriculum, forms and ways of
organizing curriculum, development of curriculum for special
groups, forces and processes in curriculum change, current
criticisms of curriculum, and curriculum for the future school.

o CIMT 664 ² Issues in Teaching: Culminating Seminar -‐ Students
will demonstrate their knowledge of and their ability to cope with
current teaching problems and issues. Emphasis will be placed on
the ability to apply knowledge of instructional theory and practice

o CIMT 860 ² Seminar in Curriculum Theory -‐ A course designed
specifically for doctoral students and curriculum specialists. The
course Presents an overview of curriculum taxonomies and theories
and models for curriculum development and organization.
Individual students are involved in practical implementation of

x Served as a half time instructor within the department teaching the
following education courses:
o ELED110 ² Pathways to Teaching -‐ An orientation to the profession
of teaching for incoming freshman majors. Enhances awareness of
the skills, attitudes, and behaviors majors need for success as
university students and as elementary and early childhood
educators. In light of the increasing complexity of the teaching
profession, familiarizes students with the program options and
career-‐enhancing specializations available to them through the
Professional Studies in Education Department.
o ELED257 ² Pedagogy I -‐ Competencies specific to the science of
teaching are introduced. Students become familiar with the
fundamentals of teaching at the elementary level. Areas explored

include models of teaching, including lesson and unit planning, and
creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
o EDUC 242 Pre-‐Student Teaching I -‐ Observation/participation in a basic
education classroom beginning not later than the sophomore year. Transfer
students (and other selected students at the recommendation of the teacher
education coordinator of the program) may register later than sophomore
year upon admission to teacher certification.
o EDUC 342 Pre-‐Student Teaching II -‐ Work toward the development of
specific competencies that relate to individual major fields of teaching.
o ELED357 ² Pedagogy II -‐ Principles based on classroom experience.
Instruction includes classroom management skills, integration of
computers in the elementary curriculum, contemporary issues in education,
the role of research in elementary classroom teaching, and teacher
professionalism during and after field experiences. (Writing-‐intensive
course)
o EDUC499 ² Multicultural/Multiethnic Education -‐ Provides an
understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity in the United States.
