Design Process
1. INSPIRATION (sources of design ideas)
2. IDENTIFICATION (what are the constraints? why is this interesting?)
3. CONCEPTUALIZATION (describe design metaphorically)
4. EXPLORATION (sketch and simplify what are the basic elements)
5. MODELING (consider the final materials and their properties)
6. COMMUNICATION (how to describe it to others)
7. PRODUCTION (making it a reality)
Vocabulary
Composition, Balance, Symmetry/Asymmetry, Tension, Movement, Edge, Positive/
Negative Space, Figure/Ground, Abstract, Contrast
Resources

Stop-motion animation, Motion capture photography, Jules Marey, Eadweard Muybridge
Inspiration Stage.
Using the below list of various types of rhythm & movement as a starting point,
research several examples from nature, photos and other art & design images that
exemplify specific types of visual rhythm. (See Resources above.)
Identify Constraints imposed or inherent in the project.
Each of the four final designs will be a 4 x 4 square. Two will have a white ground;
two will have a black ground.
Each rhythm is produced by repeating a single, rectangular shape. It may be rotated,
overlapped and cropped.
Shapes must activate 3 or 4 edges of the compositional square.
Each must be abstract, and contain a strong integration of positive and negative
space.
Each composition may utilize a rectangle that is of different dimensions than the other
designs, but the rectangle used in each layout must remain the same size/shape.
