RELIEF WORK IN

EARTHQUAKE AFFECTED AREA

Background
A powerful earthquake of 8.1 magnitude has struck major cities of
Pakistan, leaving at least 276 people dead and injuring over 1300 people.
The quake was also felt in the neighboring countries of the region.

DMAID & KDF Collaboration


DMAID has always been generous to support Pakistan in all major disasters
in the last 10 years. Karwan being the implementing partner has
implemented all relief projects in the past years. Karwan has built the
team, which has the capacity to deal which such disasters.

DMAD & Karwan Response


DMAID announced a support of 50 K DKK support for the relief activities in
the affected areas. Karwan team was already connected with media, Govt
authorities and the local representatives of few districts of KP. After
getting the information and discussion between the team, it was decided
to go for district Lower Dir, which was far away from the main cities and
people were in need there.

Targeted Area
Tehsil Maidan in district Lower Dir was found needier, after talking to the
local representatives and having discussion with the local administration
including commissioner and armed forces; we came to know that people
need blankets, floor mats, medicines and tents. We observed that tents

and food items were distributed by the federal and provincial


government in the areas, so we decided to go for Blankets and floor mats.
Winter season was also effected the people there.

Coordination with Stakeholders


Local government and armed forces were requested to help for the
identification of the deserving families. They extend their support in
reaching the area as well as provided the list of deserving families from
the area. Media sources were also there to help us and in arrangements.
Local administration arranged the distribution in a school building, so that
the distribution may be done in a proper way. Police, media individuals,
representatives of army were also there to help the relief work.
KDF was in the field with some local people so that there should not be
any communication issue while talking to the local people who usually can
talk in Pushto language. Female staff was also in this visit to take care of
widows and deserving females.
