1. INTRODUCCIN
2. 2. Mantenimiento Sencillo

1. INTRODUCTION
2. 2. Simple maintenance
2. 3. Liquid sub-chiller
Our units make use of the sub-chilling technique to improve
efficiency, with the ultimate result of yielding greater cooling
results per kW consumed. The chilled water coming from
the cooling tower enters the lowest point of the condenser
tube bundle (see drawing below).

2. CHARACTERISTICS
2. 1. Easy installation
The 30GS units were given a compact design, which takes
up minimum space in open areas and are also provided
with a complete installation package. There are no extra
controls, timers, start-up accessories, nor any other items
that require installation. The hydraulic connections are simple
because flanges are used on the evaporator.

2. 5. Drying filters
The chilling circuits are kept moisture-free to avoid problems
when operating the system.
2. 6. Crankcase heaters
They help the compressors when they are not operating, to
separate refrigerant from oil, thus securing good lubrication
when new start-up routines are necessary.
2. 7. Liquid sightglasses
Each chilling circuit is equipped with one sightglass to
indicate the humidity in the system and therefore establish
the right time to replace filters.

THERMISTORS / TRANSDUCERS
Two thermistors are used to send temperature values to
the microprocessor. A third thermistor, (RT10) may be used
as a remote temperature sensor to read the outside air
temperature (OAT).
Four transducers are used to measure the pressure in the
system (see Operation and Troubleshooting Manual).
T1 = chilled water temperature leaving the evaporator.
T2 = temperature of the water entering the evaporator
(return).
T10 = outside air temperature sensor.
CONTROL SEQUENCE
PROTECTION AGAINST NO FLOW
Turn-off cycle during the cycle to turn off the crankcase
heaters are energized.
Start-up after having been turned on, a pre-start procedure
takes place for 2 minutes. This happens for the
microprocessor self checking to self check and wait for the
temperature stabilization. The first circuit to start may be
circuit A or circuit B (automatic Lead / Lag). The control of
the load ramp limits the compressor load at start-up, and
the unnecessary use of the compressor. The microprocessor
limits the supply and therefore water temperature drops (only
at start-up) at 0.60o C per minute.
CAPACITY CONTROL
At the first call to start the chilling, the microprocessor starts
the first compressor and the first stage of the main circuit
fan. The crankcase heaters are de-energized when the
compressors start to operate. If more chilling is necessary,
more compressors are turned on alternating the Lead / Lag
circuits. The speed at which the capacity is increased or
decreased is controlled by the extent in which the
temperature shifts away from the set-point and the rate at
which chilled water changes its temperature.
F - Refrigeration Components
The components of the refrigerant circuit must include
a safety device on the high
pressure side, service valves on the liquid line, drying
filter with changeable cores,
thermostatic expansion valve (TXV), and a complete
refrigerant load.
44
the operation of each switch, thermistor, fan, and compressor before the start-up of the chiller.
c. Send the results to an outside source.
H Operational Characteristics
1 - The unit must be able to start operation with the
water-in temperature at the evaporator of 35o C.
2 - The control of the refrigerant capacity must be carried
out via the compressor.
3 - Two refrigerant circuits must protect against total loss
of capacity.
4 - The unit must be provided with the automatic Lead /
Lag option to automatically interchange the main
circuit, ensuring the balanced use of all compressors.
I Motors
1 - The motors of the compressors must be cooled by
suction gas flowing around the electric coils of the
motor.
2 - The motors of the condenser fans must be threephase, with shafts permanently lubricated and class
B isolation.
J Electrical conditions
1 - The primary power supply (three phases) must be
connected to one only position, as indicated in the
electrical diagrams.
2 - The unit must be shipped with control and power
wiring installed by the manufacturer.
K Special options
Contact the local Carrier sales representative to obtain the
information on how to best apply the specified parameters.
1 - Optional material for the condenser coil: The unit must
be supplied with a coil made with copper tubes and
copper fins.
2 - Brine-operating units: the unit must be supplied so
as to operate with a chilled water-out temperature of
9o C.
3 - One chilled water flow switch must be installed in the
field to detect low water flow.
