supports their use by coaches and student-athletes provided:
1. No offensive or inappropriate comments or pictures are posted.
2. Any information placed on the website(s) does not violate Westminster College, Department of
Athletics, or student-athlete codes of conduct.
3. Comments or pictures on these sites related to student-athletes, teams or College-identifiable
activities are appropriate, including wearing/using team uniforms or gear.
4. No pictures of coaches, staff, or any other College personnel are used without the written
permission of the person posted.
Coaches and student-athletes must remember that they are representatives of Westminster College
and are likely in the public eye more so than other College employees and students. Please keep the
following in mind as you participate on social networking websites:
1. Before participating in any online community, understand that anything posted online is
available to anyone in the world. Any text, tweet, or photo posted online becomes the property
of the site(s) and is completely out of your control the moment it is placed online, even if you
limit access to your site.
2. You should not post any information, photos, or other items online that could embarrass you,
your family, your team members, the Department of Athletics or Westminster College. This
includes information that may be posted by others on your page.
3. It is strongly encouraged that you never post your home address, local address, phone
number(s), birthdates, or other personal information.
4. Personal websites may be monitored or searched for information by any number of people,
organizations, and programs.
Coaches and student-athletes may face discipline and even suspension/dismissal for violations of
team, Department of Athletics, Westminster College, and/or NCAA policies. This policy is reviewed
with Westminster student-athletes at the beginning of each academic year and varsity sports season.

Athletic Department Academic Policy

Student-athletes will be informed about the class attendance policy prior to the start of classes in the
semester(s) they compete.
Information will be sent to faculty regarding the classes that student-athletes will miss for athletic
competition (or travel associated with athletic competition), but student-athletes are expected to
communicate the same information to the faculty in a timely fashion and to make up all class work
missed.
Faculty will also be informed that it is department policy that a student-athlete who misses a class for
no good apparent reason (unexcused absence) and that class is one he is scheduled to miss at a
later date for athletic competition will be required to make up the class on one of the dates of athletic
competition (i.e., the student-athlete at that point will not be permitted to miss the class for athletic
competition).
It is understood that some faculty members may elect to excuse a student-athlete from class for
athletic competition regardless of previous absences (excused or unexcused).
POLICIES RELATIVE TO ILLEGAL ACTIONS BY STUDENT-ATHLETES
1. For the purposes of this policy, a person is a student-athlete when he initially reports for
official practice or the start of classes (whichever occurs first) in his first year of attendance
at Westminster until the time his eligibility is exhausted or he is officially no longer a
member of the team.
2. A student-athlete who is charged with a summary offense (as defined on the next page) will
not be subject to department disciplinary action. The student-athlete may be subject to
team disciplinary action as determined by the coach in conjunction with the studentathletes Team Statement of Policy.
3. A student-athlete who is charged with a misdemeanor or felony (as defined on the next
page) will be suspended for a minimum of 10% of the number of regular season scheduled
contests, and the suspension may include post-season contests.
a. The suspension will take effect immediately if the offense occurs and/or a summons
to appear in court or arrest warrant is filed during the time the student-athlete is in
his traditional playing and practice season.
b. The suspension will occur at the beginning of the next season if the offense occurs
and/or the summons to appear in court or the arrest warrant is filed at a time outside
of the traditional playing and practice season.
c. It will be at the discretion of the coach as to whether the student-athlete is permitted
to practice, travel, and participate in other official team activities during the time he is
suspended from participating in contests.
d. In some situations, circumstances may warrant a suspension of more than 10% of
the regular season scheduled contests. This decision will be made by the Director
of Athletics in consultation with the head coach.
4. A student-athlete who is charged with another misdemeanor or felony (as defined on the
next page) for the same offense or another offense of similar severity will be suspended
indefinitely, with the suspension to include practice, travel, and participation in all other
official team activities.

These policies deal only with actions that are unlawful. Disciplinary action for violations of college
and/or athletic department policies would be at the discretion of the Director of Athletics and/or the
head coach of the student-athlete(s) involved.
INFORMATION AND DEFINITION OF TERMS
Summary offenses are the lowest grade of crime and are handled with a ticket/citation.
Misdemeanors are more serious crimes than summary offenses. Misdemeanor Three and
Misdemeanor Two are handled with a summons to appear at district court while Misdemeanor One is
handled by an arrest warrant.
Felonies are more serious crimes than misdemeanors. There are three levels of felonies and all are
handled by arrest warrants.
Underage drinking and public intoxication are summary offenses and handled by a citation.
Possession and/or use of a false ID are also summary offenses handled by a citation. Furnishing
alcohol to a minor and DUI are misdemeanors handled by a summons to appear in court.
Illegal possession or use of drugs can be a misdemeanor or felony depending upon the amount and
type of drugs found. Beyond an amount deemed for personal use, possession of drugs would be
considered intent to distribute and is always a felony.
Fighting in public is an example of disorderly conduct which is a summary offense handled by a
citation. Assault (harassment, pushing, shoving, punching, stalking, etc.) is also a summary offense.
When moderate bodily injury occurs, assault typically becomes simple assault and is a misdemeanor
three or two handled by a summons to appear in court. Aggravated assault (serious bodily injury, like
broken bones) is a felony.
Shoplifting (retail theft) and illegal use of anothers credit card, or something like a Titan Card, can be
summary offenses, misdemeanors, or felonies, depending upon the number of times it has occurred
as well as the dollar amount involved. Robbery and burglary are always felonies.
