ITALIAN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INDIAN CITIZENS FOR

THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2010-2011

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers 150 man-month scholarships to


Indian nationals for the academic year 2010-2011.

The scholarships are being announced on the website

It is mandatory that Candidates for all the above categories should register
their applications ‘on line’ with effect from 22nd February untill 31st March
2010, with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also at:
http://borseonline.esteri.it/borseonline/it/index.asp.

The registration can be done by reaching the web site:

and by clicking Study Grant Application or by reaching directly at the link:
http://borseonline.esteri.it/borseonline/it/register.asp and by pressing the
highlighted ‘Accetto’ in order to register their ‘online’ applications.

After registering at http://borseonline.esteri.it/borseonline/it/index.asp , applicants will


be able to access a multilingual on-line application form. After specifying language,
country of nationality and whether the application is new or a renewal, the applicant
then fills out the form; a draft can be saved and changed up until its final submission. If
necessary, applicants can seek the help of Italian Cultural Centre for proper filling out
the form. On-line forms must be submitted no later than 31st March 2010. Reception of
applications will be confirmed by e-mail.

After filling out and submitting their application forms, applicants must send the
following to the Embassy of Italy and Italian Cultural Centre at 50-E Chandragupta
Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi 110021:
 Application Form – printed in paper form and signed, with passport-style photo
attached;
 Two letters of introduction from academic authorities (not required if applicant is
unable to produce them due to difficult political conditions, as in the case of
refugees or displaced persons);
 Letter of acceptance (where required) from the host institution.

The above procedures are obligatory for grant consideration; paper documentation will
be date-stamped upon arrival.

Only those candidates who register their applications simultaneously with the
Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the Indian Ministry of Human
Resources by 31.03.2010 shall be called for personal interview.

The scholarships are distributed as follows:


A. 9 Scholarships with duration of 12 months each to pursue Specialised Post-
Graduate Courses;
B. 2 Scholarships with duration of 06 months each to pursue the Second Level
Advanced Course (C2) of the Italian Language and Culture course at the
University for Foreigners, Perugia;
C. 5 Scholarships with duration of 03 months each to pursue the First Level
Advanced Course (C1) of the Italian Language and Culture course at the
University for Foreigners, Perugia;
D. 5 Scholarships with duration of 3 months each to pursue the Second Level
Intermediate Course (B2) of the Italian Language and Culture course at the
University for Foreigners, Perugia;

The eligibility conditions are as follows:

For category A

1) Bachelor or equivalent degree in the subject opted, from a recognised University;


and/or
2) Master or equivalent degree with specialisation in the subject opted, from a
recognised University.

Preference shall be given to candidates who have received offer/invitation or


secured admission in any recognized University or Institution in Italy. A
document proving the offer/invitation/selection/admission should be produced
before the Selection Committee at the time of interview.

Some courses are taught in English and knowledge of Italian language may
not be considered a condition for admission. However, the decision of the
Universities/Institutions where such courses are held shall be final in this
regard.

For category B

1) Graduate or equivalent degree from a recognised University;


2) Diploma of First Level Advanced Course (C1) from the University for
Foreigners, Perugia, Italy.

For category C

1) Graduate or equivalent degree from a recognised University;


2) Diploma of Second Level Intermediate Course (B2) from the University for
Foreigners, Perugia, Italy.

For category D

1) Graduate or equivalent degree from a recognised University;


2) Good knowledge of Italian;
3) Proof of knowledge of Italian language (certificate or diploma).

The maximum age limit for all the categories is 35 years. The stipend amount of Euro
700 per month is for stay in Italy as well as for the course fee. The course fee is
reduced to 50 percent for the scholarship holders of Italian language and
Culture courses at the University for Foreigners, Perugia. The course fee in
respect of the courses of “Laurea”, “Laurea Specialistica”, “Specializzazioni
(excluding courses in the field of Medicine)” and “Dottorato di ricerca” is
exempted for the scholarship holders. However, the total or partial exemption
of the course fee in respect of ‘Single Courses’ is at the discretion of the
University concerned. The scholarship holders are therefore advised to verify
with the University authorities at the time of enrollment. No
international/national passage is offered by the Government of Italy for any of
the scholarships.

The scholarships are granted exclusively for study or research at the following types of
State or otherwise legally accredited institutions in Italy:
o Universities or University or Poly-technical Institutes;

o Institutes for Advanced Artistic or Musical training;

o Restoration Institutes;

o National School of Cinema;

o Research Labs or Centres, Libraries, Archives and Museums associated with


graduate and undergraduate University courses which require compulsory
enrollment.
The only exceptions are the European University Institute - an intergovernmental
University institution linked with community institutions - and legally accredited Private
Universities, for courses leading to educational credentials with legal value in Italy.
