THINGS NOT TO HAPPEN AGAIN

From the very beginning of the Earth, people used to fight one against other and to
ally with others, just for killing their mutual enemy. The purposes for these actions
were money, power, religious reasons and influence.
George Santayana, a Spanish philosopher, said that those who cannot remember the
past are condemned to repeat it. I completely agree with this quote. We must never
forget what happened in the past as not to repeat those terrible events.
Im going to explain you how misunderstanding religious ideas made people to kill
each other It is strange, isnt it? As religious teaches us to be kind and peaceful, to
love and accept each other, to forgive and to pray for our fellows. But, unfortunately,
sometimes, in history, in The Name of God people killed each other.
The Bible tells us that, after The Birth of Christ, Irod, the governor of Palestine
commanded to be killed all the babies till 2 years just for protecting his crown. In the
religious tradition, it is said that then were killed almost 14000 children.
Another frightening moment was in 1914 when the Ottoman Empire killed till 1918
over 2 million Christian Armenians, no matter of gender or age. Just because
Armenian people didnt accept Muslim religion. Many historians believe that this was
the forerunner of the Jewish Holocaust. Even today, The Turkish government refuses
to recognize the genocide.
And if I talked about the Jewish Holocaust I must add it to this list as it was the host
terrible genocide of all times. During Hitlers government, 6 million Jews were killed in
Extermination camps. Hitler wanted to create a superior race having a unique religion
by killing the Jewish people in bearings such as the one from Auschwitz, where you
can see tons of skeletons of the innocent people that were killed with no reason.
The Fuehrer told once to his friends that nobody will be able to judge him, because
people forget immediately everything, such as it happened with the Armenian
genocide. But, unfortunately for him, nobody forgot what he had done, and he
remains in the history as a dark spot that will ne be forgotten.
Firstly, one of the most recent and publicized events in the European history: The civil
war from Bosnia. There in 1992, the Serbians besieged Sarajevo and practiced the
ethnic and religious cleansing, with over 100000 victims in 3years. In the capital city ,
the heat and the electricity were cutted down, while all the roads that were entering in
the city were controlled by the Serbian Army. So people couldnt obtain any kind of
food.
In conclusion, we can say:
Those who dont know the past are ignorant.
Those who dont understand the past cannot see the future.
Those who are not able to learn from ancestors mistakes will repeat them. Again
and again.
