Game Commentary
Submitted by Doug Klein: Pine Creek exploded out of the locker room with 3 goals in the first 15 minutes on their way to an eventual 5-1 win
over visiting Grand Junction Central. The 2-0 Eagles were led by Senior Forward Carolyn Simon who notched 2 goals and 2 assists on the
afternoon. The Warriors were hoping for better fortune in the 2nd half with change of ends and the wind going in their favor; the visitors drew
within two in the 46th minute when a ball knocked around in the penalty area after a corner kick popped free and Freshman Lynzee Dwyer ripped a
shot that deflected in off the crossbar from just outside the 18.
Pine Creek put the match out of reach in the 60th minute when Seniors Kelsie Schmitz and Simon connected on a nifty slot pass that allowed
Simon to break free past the Warrior back line to beat Senior Goalkeeper, Tayler Else (5 GA, 4 Sv, 80 minutes). Eagle All-State Netminder,
Carmen McDermott, defended the area well by recording 9 tackles in addition to her 2 saves while also registering a first half assist on a goal kick
blast that Simon collected and pushed past keeper Else.
The Eagles rounded out the day's scoring in the 79th minute when Simon dropped a ball back to Schmitz that she drilled from 20 yards out. Amber
Held and McKenzie Oliver recorded their first goals of the season in the first half.
Pine Creek next travels to Horizon Monday night March 15 for an interleague match-up.
