>darkness entered my life
while attending victoria composite high school in downtown edmonton. this high school devoted
to the fine and performing arts, taught the masses which comprised of every ethnicity, income
bracket, and personal style. one of my school ghouls introduced me to what would become the
fermenting foundation of gothness in me. shelly was a vision of robert smith dripped in black
with a slice of glamour. she lured me to join her for a night out. the night was thursday,
and as we drew closer to the bar known as flashback, shadows came out of the dark.
flashback was in infamous bar located in the warehouse district of downtown
edmonton, near the tracks. it was housed in a warehouse with walls of black and
a checker board dance floor. before the night swelled into a cauldron of whirling
gargoyles, the bar was washed with the dark ballads of bauhaus. once the
crowd got livelier, out came the nitzer ebb, ministry, skinny puppy, sisters
of mercy, and frontline assembly etc. . . until the white of the dance
floor disappeared.
