CONTENTS
Section 1.
Record of all seafarers employed in the ship.
This record includes supernumeraries and families. It is a continuous list and each seafarer is assigned the
next consecutive number on being added. When a seafarer leaves the page of the narrative entry recording
his leaving is added, if he returns he is assigned the next available number.
Section 2.
Record of Musters, Boat Drills, Fire Drills, Training of Crew and Inspections of Life-Saving Appliances and
Fire Fighting Appliances.
Because it is required to have records of these for the purposes of the ISM Code, it is acceptable, whenever
the ship maintains comprehensive and verifiable records other than in this log book, to insert an entry in
this section to the effect that the records are kept elsewhere and to state exactly how and where they are
kept. The entry must be signed by the Master and another officer.
Section 3.
Records of test drills and inspections of the ships steering gear.
The requirements for these are set out in SOLAS.
Section 4.
Record of inspections of seafarer accommodation and supplies of food and water provided for seafarers.
Each inspection is to be recorded in this section. Inspections are to be carried out at intervals of not less
than 7 days. Where it is impracticable to inspect all the accommodation on one occasion it is permissible
to complete a section every 7 days with completion of all the accommodation every 3 months.
Section 5
Load Line and Depth of Loading. Records should be completed on each occasion on going to sea.
Section 6.
Returns of Births and Deaths.
Entries are to be made in this section whenever either event occurs. In addition an RBD.1 Form should be
completed and returned to the Department in accordance with the instructions on that form which is
available from the Department website at www.bermudashipping.bm
Section 7.
Narrative Section
This section is for use in recording entries such as change of Master, accidents, casualties, disciplinary
issues, discharge of crew, etc. The full set of data to be recorded is available in the merchant Shipping
(Official Log Books) regulations.
