Chain 11, sc in 2nd st from hook and to end
(10).

Turn the right way around again, then ch1, sc in every row end around, sl st to beg
sc. (

)
Row 4:
Ch1, (sc, hdc, dc) in same st, sk 2 sts, *(sc, hdc, dc) in next st, sk 2 sts; rep from * to
end,
do not join.
Place a stitch marker

next st, sk 2 sts], around until hat measures 11. sl st to beg sc.
Next row:
Ch1, sc in same st as ch1, sc2tog in next st; *sc in next st; sc2tog in next st; rep

Closing the back of the hat:
Lay the hat down in front of you with the back away from you, and the hook now in the
centre. Join to the opposite centre stitch with a single crochet. (1 anchor point made)
Join with a sc to the centre of the left hand side, then repeat with the centre of the right
hand side.
You now have 4 anchor points, and 4 gaps that look like a big X. One by one, join the centre
point of these gaps, as you did before. Continue going around, joining the centre point of
each gap with a single crochet, until you have closed up the back of the hat. Fasten off and
weave in ends securely.

Cowl:
Row 1:
With
5.5mm hook (I/9) hook,
fhdc 100 sts, sl st to beg fhdc, being careful not to
twist. Alternatively, chain 101 sts loosely, (preferably with a size larger hook), hdc in 2nd st
from hook and to end, (turning ch2 counts as 1st hdc), then join to beg hdc.
Row 2:
Ch1, (sc, hdc, dc) in same st as ch1, sk 2 sts; *(sc, hdc, dc) in next st; sk 2 sts; rep to
end. Do not join.
Place a stitch marker to indicate the end of this row
and continue working [ (sc, hdc, dc) in
next st, sk 2 sts], around until cowl measures 6.5. sl st to beg sc.
Next Row:
Ch2, hdc in each stitch around; fasten off securely and weave in all ends.
