1. Introduction
This operator guide is conceived to be a handy quick help for the first approach to the
supervision system. All supervision instruments, programming tools and features available with the
WINCC are already described in Siemens Manuals.
Once the operator has got a basic knowledge of these manuals, this guide will introduce him
how the system has been configured, how the WINCC features (graphic panels, alarms etc.) have
been configured, programmed and combined to provide the monitoring and the control of the plant.
Nevertheless all the information that the operator will find on the screen is supposed to be
enough to perform all operations such as giving commands to devices or observe the behaviour of
different transmitters , this guide will be necessary just to take a little of getting used.

The HMI (Human Machine Interfaces) is an interface for the operator useful to control and
supervise the machine. Each HMI pulpit is provided with computer unit, keyboard an monitor. In this
way the operator is able to:
Watch to the plant status;
Prepare the machine;
Perform commands or activate operating sequences;
Change process set-points;
Manage the alarms (display, identify, print);
Check the trend of the process main variables.

4. Supervision system
4.1 Login / change access level
When the supervision is started, the WinCC application demands that a valid user and the
corresponding password are inserted in the checkbox, as shown in the pictire below:
A WinCC application can provide to the user different levels of access each level of access
defined by a specific password, in this way the operators that manage the plant will have permission to
different commands or an only see action.
In this case there will be 3 access levels:
OPERATOR: all START / STOP commands to plant devices, but cant change parameters neither
alarm set points.
ENGINEER: all START / STOP commands to plant devices, change loop parameters and alarm set
points.
SOFTWARE ENGINEER: controls everything from commands given to plant devices, to software
modifications and also can deactivate WinCC Runtime project supervision.

LOGOUT BUTTONS
Password button
When any of these buttons are clicks the LOGOUT BUTTON from the main checkbox became
active and the operator can perform the logout command as shown in the picture below:
The operator, if he has the permission (in this case SOFTWARE ENGINEER), he can
deactivate the WinCC supervision by following the next actions described also with the pictures shown
below:
- click on EXIT RUNTIME button:
- click on DEACTIVATE button on the pop-up confirmation window that will appear as shown in the
picture below:
NOTE: remember that the operator can deactivate the WinCC supervision only if he is
logged in with the access level SOFTWARE ENGINEER.

For 1 out of 2 analogue measures or for 2 out of 3 analogue measures the operator can see all
the curves in the same chart as well as the average curve of the 2 or 3 channels present for the
analogue measure checked by the operator. An example is shown in the picture below:
The click on
button will expand the pop-up of the analogue measure and the
operator will observe the behaviour of the analogue measure as shown in the picture below:

Digital signals
Depending on the status of the digital signal we have two symbols: the digital signal can
indicate an alarm (level, pressure, flow alarm), alarm as a fault by a device in field or the digital signal
can provide to the user an information about a device (open or close). The operator can identify the
digital signal as show in the images below:
Symbols:
Examples of pop-ups for digital signals are represented in the images below:
In case that the digital signal represents an alarm the operator has the possibility to
acknowledge the alarms by clicking the
button.

Pop-up:
If the operator clicks on the loop symbol the pop-up associated will appear as shown in the
picture below:
In this pop-up the operator can view various information about the PID like
process value, set point, output value, if the PID is in tracking mode, if the ramp in
ON or OFF, but also can choose the modality how the PID works:
- AUTO: automatic mode;
- MAN: manual mode;
- OVERRIDE: override mode from logic (operator can give all commands
ignoring all conditions, this is a dangerous situation and the operator must
have permission and he must be sure he can choose this mode in the
safest way possible);
- OPER: operator mode;
- CASC: cascade mode;
- EXTERNAL: external mode.
button the pop-up of the loop signal will expand as shown in the

The operator can now visualise the trend of the loop signal with its three values: Process value,
Set Point and Output.

7.2.2 Symbols and pop-ups for plant devices (valves, motors, pumps)
Valves (on-off valves, motorized valves, solenoid valves, control valves)
The symbols, states (close, open, fault, unavailable) as well as functionality modes (automatic,
manual, override) for valves are shown in the pictures below:
Symbols:
Faceplates:
ON / OFF valves
Motorized valves
In the faceplates the operator can observe in the upper the name of the device as well as the
tag, for ON / OFF valves he can also the initial state of the valve NO (Normally Open) / NC (Normally
Close).There are present also the command buttons CLOSE / OPEN, as well as other buttons as
RESET, LOCK / UNLOCK, AUTOMATIC / MANUAL, OVERIDE.

For the on - off valves the faceplate contains also the following elements:
Button for Override mode from logic: (operator can give all commands ignoring
all conditions, this is a dangerous situation and the operator must have permission and he must
be sure he can choose this mode in the safest way possible);
Here the operator can observe a list of states and alarms regarding the valve in cause and also
he can insert (if he has the access level) a delay time until the valves opens or closes or the other way
doesnt opens or doesnt closes. This can be done with the help of the boxes shown in the picture
below:
By clicking on the
button the faceplate of the valve will reduce size to its initial
state.

For more information regarding the CPU status the operator should click on the CPUs picture
and open one pop-up that contain the CPUs LED information like is shown below:
In this pop-up are represented the LED statuses of the CPU. The dynamics of the LED are
shown below:

Clicking on the Rack picture the operator can open one pop-up containing all the cards in
respectively rack. There are four types of cards:

The analogue inputs and analogue output cards have the property to detect any over-current in
the channels. The operator is able to see this information by clicking the dynamic circle of each
analogue card.

7.4.1 Permissive
To start a sequence the operator must check if the permissive to start the associated sequence
are fulfilled. For seeing the permissive the operator must click the permissive indicator and the
permissive list will appear in the right part of the sequence page. The dynamics of the permissive
indicator is presented below:
READY TO START:
Sheet 46 of 52
In the next picture is showed the list of permissives to start the sequence.
When all the permissives are fulfilled the operator must make the visual check, clicking the
visual check window and press CHECK OK button when its present in the permissive list. If one of
the permissive is not fulfilled the operator is not able to make the visual check but, it can use the
button number associated to the permissive and go into the page where is located the permissive. For
better understanding of the button number the operator can click on the LEGEND that is located in
the down left side of the main sequence page.

7.4.2 Sequences
After all the permissives are fulfilled the sequence can be operated using the control buttons
represented below:
The dynamic of objects for the status of the sequence are presented below:
STEP NUMBER -

The sequences are composed by phases and phases are composed by steps. Clicking each
phase will appear in right part of the main page the step associated to the phase. In the next picture is
represented one phase of the sequence:
Each step has a permissive and an action. Clicking on the permissive text of the step the
operator will open one popup containing the permissive for that step like in the following picture:
Sheet 49 of 52
Both of the sequences, the start up and shut down, are controlled in the same way, but the
exception is made by the start of the shut down sequence when the operator must choose the way to
run the sequence like is shown in the next picture:
