1. Introduction
This operator guide is conceived to be a handy quick help for the first approach to the
supervision system. All supervision instruments, programming tools and features available with the
WINCC are already described in Siemens Manuals.
Once the operator has got a basic knowledge of these manuals, this guide will introduce him
how the system has been configured, how the WINCC features (graphic panels, alarms etc.) have
been configured, programmed and combined to provide the monitoring and the control of the plant.
Nevertheless all the information that the operator will find on the screen is supposed to be
enough to perform all operations such as giving commands to devices or observe the behaviour of
different transmitters , this guide will be necessary just to take a little of getting used.

2. Simatic HMI WinCC

Simatic HMI WinCC is a powerful HMI (Human Machine Interface) system witch allows an
abiding communication between the human part (the operator) and the machine part (the process),
process witch in fact is realized and controlled by the automated system.
WinCC combines both production and process automation - numerous references across any
number of applications and branches of industry prove this. A large number of WinCC Options and
Add-ons allows industry-specific solution, e.g. in pharmaceutical industry or water treatment
applications.
The WinCC Project Development / Configuration Environment: to develop and configure
projects, special editors are provided that can be accessed from the WinCC Explorer. With each
editor, a specific subsystem of WinCC is configured.
The major subsystems of WinCC are:
Graphics system - the editor for creating the screens is the Graphics Designer.
Alarm system - the editor for configuring the alarms is named Alarm Logging.
Archiving system - the editor for specifying the data to be archived is named Tag Logging.
Report system - the editor for creating the report layouts is the Report Designer.
Communication system is configured directly in the WinCC Explorer.
All configuration data is stored in the CS database.
The WinCC Runtime:
With the runtime software, the operator can run and monitor the process. In particular, the runtime
software has the following tasks:
Reading data stored in the CS database.
Displaying of the screens.
Communication with the automation systems.
Archiving of the current runtime data such as process values and alarm events.
Running of the process, e.g. through specified set-points or activation/deactivation.

3. Operator interface structure

The operator assigned to the main control shall perform the following activities:
Prepare the machine
Survey the process in order to guarantee the normal functioning of the machine.
React to any equipment fault in order to avoid operator injuries and/or machine damaging. The
operator shall also react in order to minimize the lost production.
Report to the maintenance personal any equipment bad functioning and alarms.
In order to control and survey the machine, the operator shall use:
1. Main control desk commands and local boxes
2. Operator panels (if any is provided)

The HMI (Human Machine Interfaces) is an interface for the operator useful to control and
supervise the machine. Each HMI pulpit is provided with computer unit, keyboard an monitor. In this
way the operator is able to:
Watch to the plant status;
Prepare the machine;
Perform commands or activate operating sequences;
Change process set-points;
Manage the alarms (display, identify, print);
Check the trend of the process main variables.

4. Supervision system
4.1 Login / change access level
When the supervision is started, the WinCC application demands that a valid user and the
corresponding password are inserted in the checkbox, as shown in the pictire below:

A WinCC application can provide to the user different levels of access each level of access
defined by a specific password, in this way the operators that manage the plant will have permission to
different commands or an only see action.
In this case there will be 3 access levels:
OPERATOR: all START / STOP commands to plant devices, but cant change parameters neither
alarm set points.
ENGINEER: all START / STOP commands to plant devices, change loop parameters and alarm set
points.
SOFTWARE ENGINEER: controls everything from commands given to plant devices, to software
modifications and also can deactivate WinCC Runtime project supervision.

The operator can also perform the LOGIN

command or can change the access level
clicking this checkbox which also indicates
the user logged to plant supervision.

The operator can perform the LOGOUT command by clicking the same button from witch he
can change the access level or the PASSWORD button as shown in the pictures below:

LOGOUT BUTTONS

Password button
When any of these buttons are clicks the LOGOUT BUTTON from the main checkbox became
active and the operator can perform the logout command as shown in the picture below:

The operator, if he has the permission (in this case SOFTWARE ENGINEER), he can
deactivate the WinCC supervision by following the next actions described also with the pictures shown
below:
- click on EXIT RUNTIME button:

- click on DEACTIVATE button on the pop-up confirmation window that will appear as shown in the

5. Alarms interface description

5.1 Alarms interface management
The alarms interface management is achieved by an alarm Scheduler task that reads the alarms
coming from the PLC and archives them; it also manages the active alarms queue as the
acknowledgement and manages the other requests. The alarms list is managed by the Server task;
this allows a centralized acknowledge management. When a supervisor acknowledges an alarm, the
operation is archived and communicated to every supervisor that shows the alarms.
The background colour of the alarms depends on the Priority of the alarm:
- Priority 0: system message -> black;
- Priority 3: process message -> yellow;
- Priority 5: process message -> red.
The alarm interface is composed of two windows: the active alarm collecting window and the
alarm that have been acknowledged by the operator

5.2 Active alarms collecting window

The page can be accessed by clicking this button:

7.4 Sequences and Permissives

The Misurata Combined Cycle Plant contains two types of sequences:
Start Up Sequence
Shut Down Sequence
For each sequence there are permissive/conditions that must be fulfilled in order the
associated sequence can start.
The Sequence main page is represented below:

7.4.1 Permissive
To start a sequence the operator must check if the permissive to start the associated sequence
are fulfilled. For seeing the permissive the operator must click the permissive indicator and the
permissive list will appear in the right part of the sequence page. The dynamics of the permissive
indicator is presented below:

In the next picture is showed the list of permissives to start the sequence.

The dynamics of the permissives are presented below:

PERMISSIVE IS FULFILLED - GREEN COLOR SQUARE

PERMISSIVE IS NOT FULLFILLED- RED COLOR SQUARE

When all the permissives are fulfilled the operator must make the visual check, clicking the
visual check window and press CHECK OK button when its present in the permissive list. If one of
the permissive is not fulfilled the operator is not able to make the visual check but, it can use the
button number associated to the permissive and go into the page where is located the permissive. For
better understanding of the button number the operator can click on the LEGEND that is located in
the down left side of the main sequence page.
