Liturgical Year C

Promises, Promises

Jer 33 Gods promise of a future just king.

Psalm 25 To you, O Lord, I lift my soul.
1 Thess 3 Be alert for Christs return.
Luke 21 The Son of Man is coming.
In todays Gospel, the reading
provides us with a prologue for
what sounds like a grand opera.
First we will wait in darkness.
The Christ child will come. He
lives and moves among us. We
crucify him and bury him. He rises from the dead and walks with
us again. He ascends into heaven and sends the
Holy Spirit down upon us. Then the people wander,
some forgetting him, not remembering that he will
come again in glory, descending from the clouds.
The narrator then gives us final warning: For that
day will assault everyone who lives on the face of
the earth. Be vigilant at all times and pray that you
have the strength to escape the tribulations that are
imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.
--Deacon Dick Folger

Next Weeks Readings

Bar 5 The exiles will be brought back to Jerusalem.
Psalm 126 The Lord has done great things for us.
Phil 1 Paul writes of hope to the Philippians.
Luke 3 John proclaims a baptism of repentance.

To Parishioners

Volunteers have always

been the heart and soul of St.
Helen Church. From its earliest roots as a mission church
in 1938, a labour of love for
many who helped drag stones
from neighboring fields to
build the solid little church in Vineland, those who
serve have enriched the parish and carried forth the
mission.
It was that continued spirit of 'mission' that has
helped build the parish and today, as we prepare
for the December 6, 2015 consecration of our new
St. Helen Church, we thank all those who have
served so faithfully and answered the call to help as
a church community.
You have served in so many roles sacristans,
lectors, eucharistic ministers, altar servers, choir
members, greeters, deacons, church cleaners and
decorators, members of the Building Committee,
Childrens Liturgy, SVDP, CWL and the Knights of
Columbus, facility maintenance, ministry to homebound, various committees, fundraising in fellowship and sharing many good works too numerous to
mention all without inevitably missing someone unintentionally. Many hands have made it possible
for Mass to be celebrated in the St. Mark School
gym over the last several years. Pauline and the
late Jack OGorman organized the set up crew
eight years ago, which also added a chair set up
crew. Without all of them, past and present volunteers, we would have been unable to make it happen. We are grateful for their commitments - and
its been a weekly commitment ever since!
Volunteers are the lifeblood of St. Helen Church.
You are appreciated, loved and valued. We wouldn't be able to even open the doors without you. And
because of your willingness to donate your time
and talent, St. Helen will continue to respond to the
needs of those around us, and in our beautiful new
church, provide a space where we have room to
celebrate and serve each other as we grow together in faith.
