FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Dear Parishioners,
On this first Sunday of Advent, we are invited in the words of Jesus: Stay awake,
praying at all times for the strength to survive all that is going to happen and to stand
with confidence before the Son of Man.
As we begin a new liturgical year, we use this time to make a new start. Every
day in our lives is a new blessing from God; every year even more so. Todays readings
speak of new hope. Jeremiah quotes: I am going to fulfil my promise says the Lord.
St Paul tells us to: In the Lord Jesus to make more and more progress in the
life that God wants.
Advent means arrival or coming of the Messiah; there are three arrivals of
Jesus we can reflect on. Firstly, the coming of Jesus as a human like us in Bethlehem;
secondly, we pray to see his face in our daily lives and open our hearts to him; thirdly,
the glorious coming at the end of time. All events are interconnected and we prepare a
way for the Lord over those weeks of Advent.
CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE COP 21 PARIS: As you read these words,
hopefully our cycle group will have arrived safely in Paris and our supporting trio,
David, Clara and Lucy will have returned. As the conference begins and the various
gatherings of NGOs will be taking place, I hope to be part of these activities for the next
few days. Hopefully you will have received various communications in the meantime.
PARISH BAZAAR: Hopefully that goes well, even in my absence!! It will please
me no end to know that a major parish event like our bazaar can be well staged and
supported while I am at a distance. Hope all goes well, I will be with you all in spirit!!
Thats all for now, have a good week. God bless.

Fr Joe

UPDATE: Fr Joe, the other cyclist and the supporting trio

have arrived safely in Dieppe. They were met by their
guide and light refreshments in their hall ... a tour of some
churches and had supper with their various hosts They have
now reached the outskirts of Paris and are getting ready to
participate in the activities. They thank you all for your
support Let us please continue to keep them in our
prayers for a safe journey.
