BOOK SIGNING AND PANCAKE BREAKFAST- Come

to West Pawlet and meet Megan Price, Author of Vermont Wild, who will be present, weather permitting, at
the December 13th Pancake Breakfast event sponsored
by the West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department. Megan will
be there with friends for breakfast and beginning at 10:00
a.m., she will be available for signings of her newest book,
Vermont Wild Adventures of Fish & Game Wardens,
Volume Four. The Vermont Wild series, tales of wily
poachers, persistent wardens and countless ironic twists
and turns have created a lot of the fun and laughs for readers. The stories have proven popular with readers ages 9 to
99. Local wardens star in the new Vermont Wild book
Retired game wardens Norm Brown of Wells and Terry
Williams of Poultney are among a half dozen men who
contributed to the newly released, Vermont Wild, Adventures of Fish & Game Wardens, Volume Four. A family of
competitive deer hunters kept Williams on his toes, while
Brown and a long list of law officers spent years chasing
the leader of a well-oiled poaching ring who operated
throughout the Mettowee Valley. The new book contains
more than 260 pages and 13 illustrated short stories. Retired wardens Eric Nuse of Johnson, John Kapusta of
Hardwick, Bob Lutz of Fairfax and Cabot residents, Ken
Denton and Walt Ackermann also contributed to the new
book, which features a charging bull moose on the cover.
The location for the pancake breakfast and the book signing is in the firehouse of the West Pawlet Volunteer Fire
Department in southwestern Rutland County , Vermont bordering Washington County , New York. Breakfast is served
by the firemen from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m. The breakfast price
is $8.00 12 years and up, $5.00 5-12 years and children
under 5 are free. The firemen said that Santa Claus will be
at the breakfast event from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Dec.
13th. All are welcome. Megan will be in Rutland City beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Dec 13th for book signings. For
more information about the West Pawlet event, one may
contact Megans friends Poultney Area St. Davids Society at pasds88@yahoo.com or leave a message at 802287-5744.

Just Thinking
By: May Jones
Always on the coffee table near my sitting spot is a thick, tattered, and
spine worn paperback book entitled: The Complete Essays, by Michel De
Montaigne. Influenced by sages Seneca, Aristotle, Cicero, and Plutarch, he
writes about life, and how to live it well - oftentimes answering the ever
enduring question of mankind - what is the meaning of life? He assayed
all aspects of life, beginning most of his chapters with the word OnIdleness,
Liars, Constancy, Fear, Solitude, Moderation, Prayer, Smells, Sleep,
Drunkenness, Conscience, Books, Cruelty, Anger, Virtue, Experience and
Glory just to name a few. In over 100 chapters, there is not a problem Ive
encountered that De Montaigne doesnt reach all the way from 1572 to 2015
with an answer. This is my reference book for everyday problems.
Born in France to an aristocratic family, he had the luxury of retirement in
his thirties to devote himself to thinking, reading, and learning about his true
self. He found studying and writing about himself a delightful way to pass the
time of day and looked at himself with great interest, acceptance, and humor.
He said: I spy closely on myself and keep my eyes constantly directed on
myself alone - I do not have much else to do.
When I have been wrought with fear, he told me that there is no emotion
which more readily ravishes our judgement from its proper seat. When I was
suffering, he gently reminded me that pain only occupies as much space as
we make for her. When I needed a friend to affirm my need for solitude, he
vindicated me by saying that the greatest thing in the world is to know how to
live to yourself. When I wondered about power and status he reminded me
that at the first anguished pain of the gout, it is no help to be called Sire and
Majesty. He made me laugh in the face of old age by saying that the
disadvantages of old age could reasonably give birth to a desire for drink,
since a capacity for wine is virtually the last pleasure which passing years
steal away from us.
I myself am the subject of my book, it is not reasonable that you should
employ your leisure on a topic so frivolous and vain he said. I assure you,
Michel De Montaigne, that my leisure-time spent with you has smoothed
out the wrinkles in my life and made me realize that hundreds of years between
lifetimes makes little difference in what makes us human.

by Chairman Alice Black, with Carol Brownell, Alexis Hinger,
Pat Gilchrist, Audrey Hall and Sally Whitney assisting. President Anna Dickson will preside over the business meeting.
Tagged Santa Project baskets or bags of health and beauty products will be returned at this meeting. The Womans Club annually joins with Southern Washington County groups and United
Way to make the holidays brighter for area families. Members
are reminded that the proceeds from the sale of gently used
books for the Buck-A-Book project will be divided between
area food pantries. Guests are always welcome at meetings,
especially as the Womans Club is pleased to again welcome
Jay and Lynn Kerr as presenters of this months program. Jay
Kerr is currently Artistic Director of the Fort Salem Theatre.
His professional musical career spans decades. He has shared
the bill with Bette Midler at New Yorks Continental Baths and
written childrens musicals for Broadway and television. Jay
founded and for six years facilitated a writers workshop for
the Princeton University Triangle Club. He has been musical
director of veterans Charlotte Rae and Frank Gorshin in the
original Broadway production of the Hannukah musical, The
Odd Potato. This past summer the Kerrs hosted the ever popular Singing Anchors and musical events featuring Little Red
Riding Hood and Dracula. Lynn Kerr is the owner of Cabaret
at Fort Salem, after a career in the Manhattan cabaret scene
with husband Jay as accompanist. She has appeared in plays
110 in the Shade and The Odd Potato as well as leading a
wine tasting Fort Salem cabaret event Wine, Woman and
Song. Her CD is entitled Songs My Husband Wrote.

FARM LIFE CHRONICLED IN NEW BOOK: After more
than 25 years of writing monthly humorous stories about life
on a dairy farm, Joe Peck has published a third collection of
his best tales in a new book, A Farmer in Clean Overalls and
Other Tall Tales. Joes wit and wisdom, honed through years
of speaking to agricultural audiences and writing On The
Lighter Side and Pecks Peckings for regional and national
publications is evident in each of these rib-tickling accounts
and reflections. Readers will learn how a farmer can magically
transform a front end loader into a scaffold, forklift or rock
picker, step back in time at old tractor pulls, and improvise
daily to keep the farm running. From beating the bovine blues
to his love affair with apples, Joes keen observations of the
lighter side of farming will entertain and inspire readers from
all walks of life. Peck will sign books at Gardenworks on Route
30, five miles west of Salem, on Saturday, December12, from
11 am - 2 pm. An order form for this 192-page compilation of
nearly 90 entertaining tales is available at:
www.joepeckonline.com. You may also reach Joe at Peckhaven
Farm in Saratoga Springs, New York, 518-584-4129, where
Joe and his son David, milk 120 registered Holsteins. Books
are also available at Bordens Orchards in Easton, Wiley Bros.
in Schaghticoke, and the Ice Cream Man on Rt. 29, Greenwich.

Dancer is a beautiful girl but timid.

She is a mature adult, and has been
at the shelter because of her
shyness. She loves to hide in her
little cat snuggle cube as shown in
the picture, where she feels warm
and safe. She does like to be pet on
her head, and will purr! She likes
to occasionally come out and
explore, but when she feels insecure, she jumps back
in her house. Dancer would do best in a home
without other animals, or with another calm, older
cat. She needs a home where she will be able to
hide and feel safe. As an older cat, she would love
a quiet home to retire to, and where she may be
able to feel herself.

RACING CITY CHORUS RETURNS FOR BENEFIT CONCERT: Fresh from a rejuvenated performance at this years
Northeast District Convention, the Racing City Chorus returns
to the Greenwich Area once again, to perform a concert of repertoire, patriotic, and holiday numbers on Thursday, December 10th at the Greenwich Elks Lodge. The 7PM, cabarets style
show features the areas premier Barbershop Chorus, performing old standards, as well as more recent pieces, performed in
four part a cappella harmony. Long a favorite of area audiences,
the chorus boasts local talent, as well as songsters from across
the greater Saratoga-Capitol Region. On the bill, too, delighting
their audiences once again, will be Dented Fenders, with their
own special twist on some holiday classics. Quartets comprised
of men from Racing City round out the evenings entertainment.
The December 10th show benefits mission projects of the Eagle
Bridge, Easton, Stump, and South Cambridge United Methodist
Churches. In addition to proceeds from ticket sales, a bake sale
will be held to benefit the four churches. Tickets are $10, and
are available by either phoning Dick Nessle at 692-9751, or 6929366, or from members of the participating churches. Seating is
limited. Dont miss this wonderful kickoff to the holiday season.
